Many people don’t realize that a tree nut allergy is one of the most common for both children and adults. The types of nuts that seem to be the most responsible include walnuts, pecans, almond, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts, pistachios and cashews. This isn’t the type of allergy though that young children will later outgrow. While a small percentage of them do, it is often a life long allergy to be concerned about. It is also rare for adults to develop it when they are older but a few of them do.
It is very important that you take the time to understand your tree nuts allergy or that of your child. There are simply too many types of foods out there that are made from these nuts. You will need to do far more than just not buying a package of these types of nuts. There are extracts, ice cream, sauces, and more out there that have tree nuts in them for flavoring. There are some terrific recipes you can make though that don’t contain them so make sure you do the best you can to protect against an allergic reaction occurring.
Many individuals that do try hard to avoid a tree nuts allergy may still end up with such a reaction. This is due to the use of equipment such as knives for several different projects. Cross contamination in factories as well as restaurants is very common. While efforts are made to educate such establishments about this, the practice continues. This means that those with tree nuts allergy concerns need to be well aware of any indication their body gives that they may have consumed it.
It isn’t just foods that people need to be concerned with either. Many types of alcohol contain some form of tree nuts as well. There are also soaps and locations made from it that can result in a person having an allergic reaction. As you can tell, a person with a tree nuts allergy has plenty of preventative measures that they need to take part in if they want to be safe.
Luckily, most individuals with a tree nuts allergy don’t end up with a severe reaction if they are exposed to it. Even so, it can be risky because you don’t know how your body will react to it. Most of the time symptoms of exposure will begin right away and that is how the connection is made to what is causing such an allergic reaction.
