Question by Leah’s Mommy: I accidentally gave my daughter the wrong kind of cereal a few weeks ago?
Since she was only about 4.5 months old at the time, would the fact that I accidentally gave her multigrain cereal (containing wheat) hurt her? I didn’t realize I did it but I don’t think she even swallowed much of it, until I saw that the multigrain package was opened as opposed to the rice cereal. Now I’m freaked out. I might be being irrational but did I just give her a gluten allergy or could that give her celiac disease?

She will be fine. Withholding wheat until the 1st birthday is only necessary for infants with a family history of celiac disease. Just start with the rice from now on.

Question by melissa5white: is it wrong for a teacher to use peanut candy for a lesson when one of the students has a peanut allergy?
My son has a moderately/highly allergy to peanuts. His doctor wants us to limit his exposure to prevent anaphylaxis reaction from developing (which his sibling has). He has been is school for several years, so everyone is well aware of his allergy. Each year a reminder is sent home for parents not to send in peanut products to share because of a student with a nut allergy. Yesterday he came home from school telling me that they made turkeys out of cupcakes, and the class used peanut butter cups to decorate, and when my child’s friends informed the teacher about my son’s allergy they said that’s why they will use cereal instead. My son now wants to know why he has to be different. I feel like the class is suppose to make all students feel safe, and included, and feel the incident made him feel different. Was it wrong that the teacher chose to use peanut butter cups aware of his allergy, or am I just feeling sorry for my child?

he feels different from the others because in this case he is different.
do you think the whole world is going to change to suit him?
he will have to learn that he has to be careful and what might bother him.

He’s been on gentlease since 2 months and is almost 12. It doesn’t bother him, but when we mix in 1 oz into a 7 oz bottle, he gets really bad gas. I’ve tried this multiple times and seems to be recurring. I don’t understand how he could have an intolerance or an allergy if he’s on cows milk formula.

There is no problem with giving baby soy milk formula. It is up to the parent as to what they want to give their baby. Irregardless if they have an allergy or not. I give my baby soy milk formula because I feel that it is just healthier.
