Question by ZingaMomma: Does whole wheat bread and pasta have more allergenic protein than white? If so, which proteins are higher?
My daughter has multiple food allergies. She started having reactions to wheat and tested slightly positive to that on RAST, as well. I noticed she seems fine when she eats white bread and usually can eat white pasta without a problem. Is this because white is stripped of protein or, I was wondering if there is more of one kind of protein in wheat than in white.

i dont know about protiens, but i am wheat/oats/gluten intolerant (celiac) and i have to stay away from white and wheat bread the same b/c all white bread is, is bleached wheat flour. there really is no difference where that is concerned. try kinikinik brand rice bread from your health food store. they have a good and tastey line (rare in teh gluten free world). its not bad if you toast it.

Question by barryr900: Have I developed an allergy to white bread ?
This is really strange … About a year ago I noticed I was having breathing problems after a meal. A sort of extreme fullness feeling. I went to my doctors who diagnosed reflux, gave me some tabs but it just didnt work. I have now noticed that it only happens when I eat white bread … Im baffled … could I have become allergic or intolerant of wheat or flour ? Taking an antihistamene seems to ease it slightly. Is this possible ? Im M / 39 with no other health problems.

Yes. you might have a glutten intolerance/allergy, to name one of many things. You should talk about this again with your doctor to make sure you tell him it only happens when you eat bread.

Question by Rachel: White or Wheat bread: Truly, which one is healthier? Brand recommendations would be great as well!?
I’ve heard all the stories that Wheat bread is healthier — but, there are people who have gluten allergies and so wheat bread is NOT healthy for them due to the barley. But what about white bread? Is enriched white flour so horrible?

The best way to go either wheat or white is just get a whole grain one. I prefer Sarah lee’s whole grain white. Whole grain is very healthy.

Question by mksmiller: Can a child with peanut allergies eat white chocolate?
I’m making a treat for a kindergarten class. One of the kids has a peanut allergy. The recipe calls for white chocolate chips and I am curious if this is something that might potentially be harmful.

Question by mmmi: What allergens are contained in white bread and pasta, but not in wheat?
I’m doing some research on allergens and food intolerances for breads and pastas. Specifically, many white breads and pastas make me feel really sluggish when I eat them. I don’t just mean that I feel a little overloaded on carbs; I’m talking about two bites of macaroni and cheese moving my energy level from extremely high to lethargic in a matter of minutes–and the sluggish feeling lasts for hours.

On the other hand, I can eat pretty much any whole wheat or whole grain product, so I’m confident that the problem is not a wheat allergy. I have compared the ingredients of two products that make the problem really bad–white pasta and a Chick-Fil-A bun–and narrowed the list of shared ingredients down to mostly vitamins…it just doesn’t make sense to me (I have stumbled on some research about B vitamin allergies, but I take a daily multi-vitamin). Any thoughts (besides “go see an allergist”–which I will probably do!)?

the more refined the wheat product the higher the levels of gluten are, so brass tacks, it’s the wheat gluten that you are intolerant of.
