I am having a friend over and she is allergic to wheat and gluten. I am trying to figure out something we can have for dinner and maybe as a desert so I was wondering if you could list some good foods/meal ideas that I could choose from as options as I have no idea what she can eat because I don’t have this allergy. Any help is appreciated

There are a bunch of options. Check with your local grocery store to see what kind of gluten-free dinners/cooking options they have before you settle on a dinner choice.

Question by blue_eyed_girl: Dr.’s appt. tomorrow for my 2 year old – possible wheat/gluten allergies – Any tips on what to ask?
I posted a couple questions yesterday, and thank you to everyone who took the time to answer. I made an appt. with our ped. tomorrow for my son to look into the possible wheat/gluten issues.

He has chronic diarrhea which we thought was due to milk/soy allergies. Those have been removed from his diet but the diarrhea continues.

From what I’ve gathered, I’m going to ask for a blood test to check his IgG4 levels and his IgE levels, correct?

My son also has received physical therapy, developmental therapy and is currently receiving speech therapy. There has been no mention of the word “autism” yet, but after hours of research last night it seems that this may all be combined in some way. Anyone with similar experiences?

A family friend who is a GI doctor at a major children’s hospital dismisses this as “toddler’s diarrhea” but I have a gut feeling it is more. I’ve learned to trust your instinct as it is usually right on target!

Tomorrow’s Taco Tuesday at school. I have a wheat allergy and the school doesn’t know crap for information about what is in their foods. The tacos are made with regular taco meat and Fritos corn chips. Optional condiments.

Any Fritos gurus out there who could help…?

Some symptoms are stomach aches, fatigue, loss of energy and weight, a general feeling of discomfort.
The way most doctors test for a gluten allergy is by a blood test, but the only for sure way of knowing if you have it is by getting a biopsy of your stomach. Which of course is not the first method of choice.
If you family has a history of the allergy or if you or a family member has an auto-immune disorder (lupus, diabetes, etc) it is easier for you to have the condition.
Google celiac disease. Tons of sites and info will come up.

I know I don’t have an allergy to them, but I do feel bad a lot, I”m trying to go through the foods I eat daily. (on doctor’s advice) and I’ve heard of sensitivities. What are the signs of wheat/gluten sensitivity?

Bloating, your stomach being upset after eating certain breads, diarrhea or constipation. Some people with Celiac Disease actually have acute allergic reactions that can be life threatening. Some people actually break out in hives and have their throats close.
