Question by Mel: Cannot Have Wheat, Dairy or Sugar – Help!?
i’m 18 and female. i recently started going to a natural medicine doctor and had an ALCAT food allergy panel. most of what i’m allergic to are things i eat almost everyday. i don’t have reactions, like hives, to anything. so far all i’ve noticed is that when i have dairy, my stomach hurts. apparently, i am also allergic to the following….
severely – pecans; moderately – yeast, cashews, cauliflower, cow’s milk, grapes, green peas, green peppers, millet, mustard, pineapple, salmon, shrimp, snapper, sole, summer squash, tuna, gluten, wheat, oats, rye and barley!
these are things i (used to) eat a lot that i’m going to add into my 4 day rotation: beef, potatoes, turkey, corn, broccoli, and rice. and by the way, i’m from kansas, so i was raised on beef and potatoes and am very sad i can’t eat them anymore!
SO now my doctor said i cannot have any type of dairy, grain or sugar. does anyone have any recipes or advice to make eating this way easier? i am so frustrated.
please don’t insult me. i do not go to a “witch doctor”. i go to a respected doctor who is well known for helping austistic children. i never even said i was allergic to sugar! this is in addition to everything else. i also have a thyroid problem, so in conjuction with that, the foods i eat make me very tired and irratible. my dad has been having the same problems for years. this doctor is an answer to my prayers.

Answer by bekahbabe001 Maybe you should get a second opinion… If you only notice pain/irritation from eating dairy, perhaps you’re only allergic to that? Its just a suggestion, but if I were you I would get a second opinion before giving up all those foods!
Anyway, you can have soy milk in place of cow’s milk, and there are tons of great tasting vegetarian and vegan cheeses/yogurts/ice cream out there that you can have in place of dairy.

Question by S.: Recipes with Stevia, with no Wheat or Sugar? Desserts and/or Main Dishes? (I’ve got lots of allergies) ?
I’ve got lots of allergies, and my doctor has put me on a diet with no sugar, wheat, yeast, corn, or potatoes (among other things). Some of the things I CAN eat are organic berries, stevia (as a sweetener), rice flour, oat flour, organic beef, rice, granny smith apples, stuff like that. I believe it’s called the Candida Diet or something like that. If you have any recipes (especially desserts!) that use stevia instead of sugar, and something other than wheat or spelt, please share!

Answer by the librarian I really like stevia.

Question by Nancy: Is Canadian wheat different than wheat grown in the States?
I lived in Florida but my mom brought home some buckwheat pancake mix from Canada. After eating them, I had a terrible reaction and had to go to the hospital. A few weeks later, I went to Canada on my honeymoon and had a wheat cracker and had a much more mild reaction, but still had to take Benadryl and sleep the whole day. Now, 6 years later, I have moved to Canada for my husbands job and am struggling with very, itchy skin, large patches of dryness that ends in bleeding on my hands. My face has raised itchy parts all over it and I feel so miserable. My face and ears are always very hot and I am finally going to the Doctor this week. I moved here from Florida, so it can be the extreme weather changes or I am wondering if it is a food allergy. Anyone relate??

Answer by Andy M This does sound like some sort of a food allergy. I’m not an agriculture expert, but I eat a lot of food. The food in the grocery stores I shop in comes from all over the world. I doubt there is any difference in U.S. and Canadian wheat. You probably are allergic to a preservative or food dye that was in the food. For example, crackers that are colored with food dye make my nephew have a runny nose, while ones that aren’t cause no problems for him. He’s been like this from birth. Maybe Canada allows one or two different food preservatives or dyes in their food that the U.S. does not. Even with dr visits, it may take switching to a more pure diet – less processed foods and more basic plain fruits, veggies, meats, and potatos – without anything added by a company. Then add back one or two different processed wheat products at a time to see what happens. You could try crackers without any food dye, and then yellow cheese crackers that have dye added, rye bread, then wheat bread, etc – until you figure out which preservative or additive is causing the problem.

Question by Natalié Van Hildenberg: does gluten & wheat free diets get rid of phlegm.?
for a few months now I have been coughing up clear phlegm… It started getting worse with bigger chunks coming up and a constant feeling of phlegm in my throat with my nose feeling constantly stuffy. I always feel like I have to cough every 2 seconds and blow my nose. I had some kinesiology allergy tests done and it showed up that I was sensitive to wheat , dairy products & potatos. I was advised to go on a wheat & gluten free diet and cut out the dairy & potatos all together. I was just wondering if anyone else had a problem with phlegm and this sort of diet helped to shift it? Also in the morning my chest feels congested when I first wake up. I have mild asthma but the doctor’s are persistant in saying that this is not asthma related. I have even been told to come off my inhalers by the asthma clinic but I cannot seem to manage it. Replies will be appreciated.
p.s I have been to different doctors had 3 courses of antibiotics and it did not lift. The phlegm is clear so it is not an infection.

Answer by Phil I think you’ll find your diet will help. My thing was milk. When I quit it took a few weeks but it worked.
Hope this helps and good luck.
