Question by Leah’s Mommy: I accidentally gave my daughter the wrong kind of cereal a few weeks ago?
Since she was only about 4.5 months old at the time, would the fact that I accidentally gave her multigrain cereal (containing wheat) hurt her? I didn’t realize I did it but I don’t think she even swallowed much of it, until I saw that the multigrain package was opened as opposed to the rice cereal. Now I’m freaked out. I might be being irrational but did I just give her a gluten allergy or could that give her celiac disease?

She will be fine. Withholding wheat until the 1st birthday is only necessary for infants with a family history of celiac disease. Just start with the rice from now on.

Question by Cuddly W: I want to lose ten pounds in 10 weeks?
Okay, so I’m currently 5’4″ and 136 pounds. I was at 126 pounds and a size 4 but am now a tight size 6. I do have a wheat allergy but haven’t been able to cut it out. I’m going to now, along with exercising more, eating healthier, etc. Do you think it’s possible to lose that much weight in that time frame? A shorter time frame? Would the wheat free diet help?

Question by I’m a Mommy ?: 15 weeks pregnant: Shrimp allergy – hubby is allergic, should I avoid them too?
I’m 15 weeks pregnant and the doctors office isn’t open today to ask them so I though I’d just ask you all what you’ve heard.
My husband and his father are both allergic to shrimp. I was reading an article on what you should and shouldn’t eat (myth vs. fact) when pregnant. Two myths were shellfish and peanuts/peanut butter but then it went on to say that they were OK to eat “unless your family has a history of allergies to these foods”. Of course, I just happened to read this after a lovely fried shrimp lunch! I’ve also had shrimp several times over the last few months because it is on the “safe fish” list. I informed my doctor at my initial appointment that he was allergic to shrimp but nothing was said to me about not eating it. I was just told not to put another piece of tuna in my mouth until after the baby was born.
So, have you heard anything about avoiding foods if there is a family allergy to them?
I’m thinking of a hereditary allergy that the baby may inherit from his dad’s side of the family.

I’m just about finished w/ a can of his formula and I’d rather not buy another one if I can just buy a jug of milk instead. He’ll be a year in a couple weeks and has never shown any allergy to whole milk yogurt or pasturized cheese. Do I have the okay or should I just wait for his appointment?
