Question by squadcar15: fussy 7 week old… milk protein allergy?
I have a beautiful, wonderful 7 week old baby girl who has been quite fussy the last month or so. She has moments of happiness, and calm where she smiles and makes me feel like the greatest mom in the world, but a lot of the time she fussy and cries out as if she is in discomfort… I think that she is crying out from gas… she burps quite often and farts even more. I took her to the doctor last saturday and he thought that maybe she had some silent reflux because she doesn’t spit up, but i can hear her making strange swallowing sounds when she isn’t eating and they gave her a perscription for previcid. i think that is helping a little, but I am more concerned now about her gassiness. The doc also recommended switching her formula from similac advance to similac sensitive. I think maybe changing it to enfamil gentalese might help somewhat, but I just don’t know. Could it possibly be a milk protein allergy? I have tried just about everything…. she usually burps after and during feedings, she burps randomly when she isnt’ feeding… I have tried mylicon drops… i have tried rubbing her belly and doing the bicycle movements with her legs.. She just seems to get really uncomfortable if she isn’t in her swing or walking around on my sholder. laying her on her back makes her cry, so i have be sleeping her on her tummy (with a very watchful eye). Do any of you out there have any experience with milk protein allergies? What are the symptoms? any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by musulmanaitaliana
my son was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy.

when i was breastfeeding he was okay. but my milk started to dry up and he wasn’t getting enough to eat so i had to supplement.

i gave him regular similac and he was vomiting violently, gassy, miserable and his stool was white colored explosive diarrhea. as if he didn’t digest the milk at all.

of course i freaked out, went straight to the doctor and i switched him to similac isomil advanced which is a soy formula. he is now almost 10 months and doing great. he didn’t like the taste at first…but he was fine once he got used to it. we did the switch at around 4 months.

the only thing that i noticed was that his stool has a toxic smell to it that could clear a room..lol.

ask your doctors office for a sample. and even if your baby doesn’t have an allergy the soy formula is good for gassy or stomach sensitive babies.

good luck

ps…..i haven’t given him an milk products yet…I’m waiting until he is a full year to see if he is over the allergy. because if your child does have an allergy…if you don’t aggravate it, you have a chance of it going away on its own.

Question by Debbie: I eliminated all bread and sugar for the past week and I lost weight…do I have a food allergy?
Been watching what I been eating and exercising for the last 2 months and only lost 1lb. After feeling bloated all the time I decided to cut out bread and sugar to see if that would help…sure enough it did. Could I be allergic to gluten or wheat? If so, what type of Dr. do I see for this?

Best answer:

Answer by essentiallysolo
you might have a gluten allergy, or you may have metabolic syndrome, at any rate cutting all the calories that are in breads and sugars would of course cause you to lose weight. You can see an endocrinologist to rule out metabolic syndrome, or an allergist to rule out a gluten allergy.

Answer by Whurlywheep
Ask your health care provider for a referral to a pediatric dietitian. These people can give you a lot of valuable advice.

When I feed her regular formula she squished into a ball, and cries but does drink it. She also cries pretty much all day, she has really bad gas and has a rash on her face and head. I think that she has a milk allergy, but I am taking her to the doctors on Tuesday. Just wanted to know if this happened to anyone else, and if so what did you feed your baby? I got some soy formula yesterday and she seems to be MUCH better but then I was reading that lots of babies that are allergic to milk are also allergic to soy. Anyhow any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah no one else has a milk allergy in our families.
