Question by Amie: is this a true food allergy????????
My 9 year old step daughter was diagnosed with food allergies when she was almost 7. she was quite the chubby little thing and now is quite slender. her mother said that she is allergic to wheat and milk, and chocolate. well I know that before the diagnosis she never complained about stuff that she ate. and I also know that when you get tested many of times it is false positave. some weekends when she is here she will eat stuff she is not supposeto and no reaction then other times when she almost is in need from attention from mommy she says my tummy hurts. I think that she complains about illness to get moms attention. and she is quite the hypochondriac with other things too. but this food allergy thing is making me crazy she cant have it if it is good for her but if she wants a peice of cake or a cookie or candy bar then she eats it no problem. she never has visible symptoms well her mom says she gets white milk dots on her nose (never seen by us), and her tummy hurts. helpplz

First of all, the only thing that causes allergies must contain a protein. If it does not have a protein, the problem can be a food sensitivity.

There is a simple test that you can do to determine if she has an allergy or a food sensitivity to something. Have her sit in a chair and wait until her heart rate is constant, about 5 minutes. Then take her pulse for a full 60 seconds. Don’t do the 15 sec. multiply by 4 thing, a full 60 seconds. Write down the number. Now have her chew the thing you believe she is allergic or sensitive too for about 30 seconds. Keep it in her mouth and then take her pulse again for the full 60 seconds. Write that number down.

If there is an increase in the pulse over 6 beats, she has an allergy (if protein based) or a food sensitivity. I suggest the milk you are feeding her may be pasteurized and homogenized. That is garbage and it’s no wonder she may have a reaction to that junk. What you want to give her is RAW milk that is from cows fed grass, not some grain fed, sick cow they make the pasteurized garbage from. Most likely she is not allergic, but the altered calcium – chards of crushed amino acids that elicit a homocystein response in the body could be the real problem she has with milk.

Go to: www.organicpastures.com and look at the FAQ’s for more information on the high quality raw milk they sell.

good luck to you

Question by Brooks: Cooking ideas for someone allergic to wheat, soy, corn, chicken, beef, rice, gr. beans, potato and cocoa? True?
My son was recently diagnosed with allergies to all listed above. Luckily he loves raw vegetables, but I really need some ideas for actual cooking other than turkey and ham. Any help would be wonderful!
My son was recently diagnosed with allergies to all listed above. Luckily he loves raw vegetables, but I really need some ideas for actual cooking other than turkey and ham. Since he is allergic to wheat and soy, most vegetarian substitutes for meat are out because of the glutein. Any help would be wonderful!

You try a variety of fish dish’s. Other than that the food allergies association may be able to help. Look them up. They did a nice presentation at our school to help understand food allergies.

Question by Allison P: Milk allergy and/or lactose intolerance…is this true?
Someone told me that people (especially kids) who do not like milk are more likely to have a milk allergy or lactose intolerance, because disliking milk is the body’s way of saying that you shouldn’t consume it. Is this true?

Of course this wouldn’t be true of everyone, and I certainly know that just because someone doesn’t like milk it doesn’t always mean they have an allergy. However, it was true in my case. I have never liked milk, I have always despised it. And when I got tested, I found out I have an intolerance to milk. Maybe all these years my body was telling me not to drink it, as I’d have problems if I did. Maybe? I guess it makes sense.

Is there any truth to this theory?

Absolutely not. I hated fish when I was younger and now I love it. It’s called being picky. Now the body can develop an intolerance to something that you hardly ever eat. For example I eat my meat raw so my body can tolerate the bacteria. Now if my mother ate raw meat she would throw up because her body cannot tolerate. it. It has nothing to do with your not handling it at first. That comes after you don’t eat that specific food.

Question by chill out: Is it true that it’s bad to drink milk while you have a cold?
Ever since I was young my parents would say that if you drink milk while you have a cold or a stuffy/runny nose that it’s bad for your cold. is it true? Cause I find that when I drink milk when I have a cold/ allergies all the mucus comes out easier.

So is this a myth or something? Is it true that milk makes the cold worse, if so, how come?

Answer by Esther F
Supposedly, milk is bad when you are congested because it makes more mucus (lugees).
