Question by Bruce & Kelly: Toddler son is allergic to milk, soy, and grape products PLEASE HELP!!!!!?
Son went to a endocrine diabetic specialist because of restricted weight gain. Doctor asked to put him on pediasure twice a day with his normal diet and nutramigen. He was on nutramigen because of milk allergies but, the specialist thought it was perfect timing to introduce it back to him and see how well he does. Very bad results on this behalf therefore, we had to go back to the doctor. They decided to do some allergy tests and the results showed he is allergic to milk and soy products. He is also allergic to grapes, raisins, grave flavoring etc. (as we found that out the hard way in the ER).

My problem is I have to read very closely to labels and almost everything has soy in it. I did get some almond milk, and managed to find some toddler meal stuff that was milk/soy free but does anyone have more examples. I hate going to the grocery store and holding everyone up while I look at every ingredient because i HAVE too.

Also, what can I use as a butter substitute in mashed potatoes. I have the unsweetened almonds milk as a replacement for cooking but any ideas for butter? Bread seems to have soy in every brand of it as well any ideas on this route? Please help I am so lost….I would like to be able to make meals for my entire family of 6 rather than make him eat something completely different. It upsets him when he can’t have what we have because, he does not understand!!!!

Thanks in advance…

Answer by ChemoAngel
I know how you feel. I have 30 pages worth of Food Allergies. Here are a great website to help you out.

http://www.allergyfreeandsugarfreesnacks.com/soy-free-food.html

Just ignore the part about the dairy. The dairy is easier, try using products that contain Almond/Rice Milk, and there are also alot of products that don’t contain soy or dairy at all. You just have to read the back of the packages. I know it’s annoying. I have to stand there and read it myself. It’s hard when your a toddler, It’s just something he has to get used to, otherwise don’t eat what HE can’t eat in front of him.

Question by slw28: Does my toddler have a milk allergy or milk intolerance?
This is a little complicated but here it goes… a couple months of ago we started incorporating whole milk with formula into my toddlers diet. She started spitting up more than normal and when we switched her over entirely she woke up with a swollen eye then had a fever then vomited for 2 days then had diarrhea for 3-4 days then ended with a rash on her arms legs and face. We took her to a doctor and she said the rash was some kind of allergic reaction but the problem was she had just had 3 vaccines and had fish for the first time and then the milk and on top of that was in daycare where she had picked up colds/ etc. from the kids previously. We weren’t sure what it was so we put her back on the formula she had been on for most of her life which is cow’s milk based. She got better within a week and now it’s 2 months later with, according to my knowledge, no changes in her diet and she is having similar yet milder symptoms. She vomited twice last thurs. and had one small red dot on her face like the beginnings of a rash and now has had diarrhea for the past 4 days. I called the doctors office and they said to try soy formula for a couple days and if that doesn’t work to call them back. What I would like to know is if this sounds like an allergy or intolerance to milk to anyone out there who has a child with either of those problems. I know this is long but I’m alone without help for a month and I need her to get better for her and my sake and want to know what’s wrong. Any suggestions would be great.

Best answer:

Answer by red t
It sounds like an allergy. My sister is allergic to milk and dairy products. Soy milk is best.

Question by The dancing cat: Toddler has milk allergy, what should he drink?
My 16 month old baby was just diagnosed with milk and egg whites allergy, they told me the blood test results over the phone. Also they told me to schedule appointment with an allergist. So I did, next appointment is available at the end of August. Till then I have no idea what to feed him with? Soy milk seem sdoesnt have required amounts of fat as whole milk, lactaid milk still contains milk protein he is allergic to. He was on Similac milk based formula since birth. It is weird he just got diagnosed at 16 months after I changed pediatricians several times trying to figure out why gets so bad eczema. I was kept being told it was normal. Now I see it was because I fed milk formula to him and since 1 year he drinks several cups of whole milk per day that he is in fact, allergic to. This morning I went and bought some soy Similac toddler formula, thos things are so expensive! Isnt there something cheaper out there? I cannot find a soy toddler formula in store brands, only Similac and Enfamil which is very expensive. Is there a type of soymilk that is good for toddlers? What should I do? 2 months till I can talk to specialist about this. Pediatrician says do whatever you always did till the specialist says otherwise. But seems idiotic to me to give him milk & cheese if he is allergic to it, right???

Best answer:

Answer by ceinglehart
It does, but if it’s only eczema and not making him ill, it might be best. See how he reacts to the Soy Similac and if it’s alright, I guess you just have to suck up the price. And you are right about Lactaid milk, for an allergy it will still cause an issue.

Question by Jessica: How can I help my thin toddler with food allergies gain weight?
I have a 19 month old son who is allergic to peanuts, eggs, any kind of dairy, and soy. He is thin, but not dangerously thin. How do I fatten him up if he is allergic to some of the most fattening things for toddlers (peanut butter, cheese, butter, etc.)? He drinks rice milk and hemp milk and loves them. Do you have any smoothie or food recipes that might help my little guy? Thanks in advance.

Question by Bubbs: Any suggestions for a meal plan for a toddler with milk & egg allergies?
My daughter is 13 months old and is allergic to milk and eggs. Currently she is on a mix of baby food/soy milk and table food. I am trying to ween her completely off baby food and onto table-food. She is my first child so I’m still learning the daily necessities/what I should be feeding her and I’m having difficulty finding things that she can have. Does anyone have any suggestions of meal plans which I can use for her? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
We haven’t really experimented much, we’re just starting table foods. But the other thing is that we are very lucky, the worst reaction that she’s had is that she broke out in hives. A normal reaction will only cause her to have an eczema breakout.

Answer by Jennfier H
My 14 month old son is also allergic to milk and eggs. I just try and give him fruits, veggies, and meats. My son seems to do okay with bread and “some” other things that have eggs and milk “cooked” in them. How about your daughter?

My daughter started vomitting when we put her on whole milk. I tried soy milk and she still vomitted so we ruled out a milk allergy. Since then she has had an upper gi showing refluxing. The meds she is on now does not work. So could this just be acid reflux. I just don’t think she can be allergic to milk since she was on cows milk based formula and she does have milk before bed and she doesn’t throw up at night any.

My 14-month-old is allergic to eggs and milk so I have a hard time getting him the protein and fat he needs. He doesn’t seem to like tofu, kidney beans or hummus. Due to his allergies, he can’t have peanuts, tree nuts or seafood until he’s 3 y.o. Does anyone have suggestions for how I can pump up his protein intake?
