Question by Amie: is this a true food allergy????????
My 9 year old step daughter was diagnosed with food allergies when she was almost 7. she was quite the chubby little thing and now is quite slender. her mother said that she is allergic to wheat and milk, and chocolate. well I know that before the diagnosis she never complained about stuff that she ate. and I also know that when you get tested many of times it is false positave. some weekends when she is here she will eat stuff she is not supposeto and no reaction then other times when she almost is in need from attention from mommy she says my tummy hurts. I think that she complains about illness to get moms attention. and she is quite the hypochondriac with other things too. but this food allergy thing is making me crazy she cant have it if it is good for her but if she wants a peice of cake or a cookie or candy bar then she eats it no problem. she never has visible symptoms well her mom says she gets white milk dots on her nose (never seen by us), and her tummy hurts. helpplz

First of all, the only thing that causes allergies must contain a protein. If it does not have a protein, the problem can be a food sensitivity.

There is a simple test that you can do to determine if she has an allergy or a food sensitivity to something. Have her sit in a chair and wait until her heart rate is constant, about 5 minutes. Then take her pulse for a full 60 seconds. Don’t do the 15 sec. multiply by 4 thing, a full 60 seconds. Write down the number. Now have her chew the thing you believe she is allergic or sensitive too for about 30 seconds. Keep it in her mouth and then take her pulse again for the full 60 seconds. Write that number down.

If there is an increase in the pulse over 6 beats, she has an allergy (if protein based) or a food sensitivity. I suggest the milk you are feeding her may be pasteurized and homogenized. That is garbage and it’s no wonder she may have a reaction to that junk. What you want to give her is RAW milk that is from cows fed grass, not some grain fed, sick cow they make the pasteurized garbage from. Most likely she is not allergic, but the altered calcium – chards of crushed amino acids that elicit a homocystein response in the body could be the real problem she has with milk.

Go to: www.organicpastures.com and look at the FAQ’s for more information on the high quality raw milk they sell.

good luck to you

Question by cj84: Has anyone heard of this related to an allergy?
My 9 month old daughter has recently tried toast (whole wheat) but for the past few weeks here voice has has seemed crackly. Personally I think it’s because she does these very high pitched squeals and screams when she gets excited, my MIL is convinced it’s an allergy, even though my daughter is extremely happy and acting normal and has no signs of an allergy (watery eyes, runny nose, rash, irritability, being sick) I do have a check up May 25 (earliest I can get in) I really don’t think I have anything to worry about, but she (is staying with us for a week) is so convinced something is wrong with her and telling me to stop any foods, except for beginner purees, it’s kind of driving me crazy that she thinks I don’t know my daughter well enough to know when something is wrong. Has anyone heard of a baby having a slightly crackling voice as an allergy reaction? I haven’t read it anywhere
The thing is she had this crackling since about a week before the bread, I have only given to her 3 times total and have stopped for time being, and her voice is still kind of crackling..I didn’t mean to sound super annoyed in this, I just hate when someone is constantly telling me how to raise my child and always pointing out everything they think I am doing wrong..Thank you for the responses

Question by shallan a: could this be a food allergy? HELP!?
I am having some trouble finding out what it is i am eating that is causing me problems. every once in a while i get really bad gas often accompanied by diarrhea and/or nausea. i suspect milk and cut a lot of dairy products out, and now drink enriched rice milk, but the last few days i have been obviously eating something else that has negative effects on me, i have been eating a lot of wheat so maybe gluten? and also the last 3 days or so Ive eaten a lot of strawberries, could this be a strawberry allergy that ive suddenly developed/noticed.

any information on: allergies, development of allergies in adulthood (im 22), personal experiences, irritable bowl syndrome, anything i would welcome. I’m just at a loss, i really don’t know what this could be.

oh! other then this i am healthy and active, don’t eat fast food etc so it isn’t just poor diet in general.

Ok, I have lots of allergies, so I might be able to help. I would say to try different things, test different foods, and see what they do to you. Also, you need to keep in mind any and all environmental factors that could be aggravating our allergies. Bottom line, go see an allergist, and seek medical attention if your symptoms intensify severely.

Question by Astafia: Could this be a sign of a gluten intolerance/allergy?
I don’t eat a lot of wheat anymore – I mostly eat legumes, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. However, I sometimes eat toasted wheat thins with hummus. It’s freaking delicious, okay? But I have noticed several times that when I eat it, my face swells up and looks really bloated. I always thought it was unrelated, but my face had been normal for weeks (I hadn’t eaten this or any other wheat really) and then as soon as I ate a fair amount of it tonight, my face swelled up and my legs are very itchy. Could this be a sign of a gluten intolerance/allergy or is it just a coincidence? I would like to know what this swelling/bloating is since it’s really ugly. Does anybody with a known gluten allergy experience facial bloating after consuming it?
I ate some more a few minutes after I posted this and my now my throat is getting really itchy…I’ve also been having trouble with milk – it causes pain in my stomach, and I just have stomach pain A LOT in general (but it’s fairly mild unless I eat ice cream or drink milk). Is there any grand way I can tie this all together or am I just really sensitive?)

It is not unusual for people to have sensitivities or allergies to more than one food. You may be intolerant of both wheat and dairy. Or it could be something else. Discuss it with your doctor the next time you are there. My aunt has celiac disease, and had abdominal pain and diarrhea, but no swelling of her face. You may be different since according to the Mayo Clinic there really aren’t any truly typical symptoms of celiac disease..
