Question by Amber: Ever babysit a kid with allergies and their parents are stupid about it?
Seriously, this is the 2nd time this WEEK, that they have given me food that he is allergic to. He’s allergic to eggs, milk, and because of the milk issue cheese, so dairy allergies. They gave me a gerber graduates meal (which I wouldn’t feed to my children in the first place) which contained whole egg, cultured cheese, 2% milk, etc. And then I told them about it and they said, “oh, we were in a hurry and didn’t think to check.” What the crap? Your kid has allergies. When he is allergic to something he starts wheezing and you have to give him allergy medicine or a shot if it gets really bad and plus his little body rejects the food and gives him horrible diarrhea. Then, today, they gave me a granola bar to give him. It says specifically on the label. Warning contains: Milk Allergy! I really just don’t know how they could be this, excuse me for saying this but, STUPID! Anyone ever dealt with this? It’s not like they aren’t educated, she’s a obgyn nurse and the dad is a lawyer. And plus the granola bar has peanut allergies as well, and for lunch they want me to feed him a honey and peanut butter sandwich. Ugh, just needed to rant a little. If your kid has allergies you read the labels, even if they don’t you read the labels. Why would you just trust what they are feeding to your kids?
I just feel bad for the kid, his parents had him 7 years later after their first and my daughter is 4 days younger than him (14 going on 15 months) and he still doesn’t even attempt to stand, except we’ve been working on it at my house and his parents are amazed that he will let me walk him down the hall if I hold onto his hands. He doesn’t even really talk except for gibberish and the only words that he will say is “stop it”. He screams when he wants something because they didn’t teach him sign language. I’m not sure what is going on. I think he might have been an oops and their careers are way more important. When I first got him his mom told me that if I didn’t keep him in the pack-n-play he would get into everything and she was amazed that I let him use toddlerware to feed himself and he loved it and said she didn’t own any. Just grateful to be my kids mommy I guess. : )
she still spoon feeds him because she thinks it’s too messy

Question by TandL: Does anyone have an allergy to milk that affects their skin?

Best answer:

Answer by Tangerine
Even with lactaid, sometimes my husband will break out in hives. It’s not fun. Last time it spread allover his body – the doctors aren’t sure it was the milk allergy, but they feel that it likely was. He had to take steroids to suppress the rash and has been on meds for a month now to get it fully at bay.

aphylaxis or anaphylactic shock is a severe, fast acting and possibly life-threatening allergic reaction. According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) anaphylaxis is triggered the same way other allergies (Read about “Allergies”) are – the body’s immune system (Read about “The Immune System”) overacts to a substance generally considered harmless. In anaphylaxis, however, this response is dramatic due to extreme hypersensitivity. This can cause a severe allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock. It usually involves various parts of the body and if severe enough, it can be fatal. The numbers vary widely depending on the cause of the reaction but the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) says as many as 600 people a year die f

Question by camiasia2000: Does Reese’s use real peanut butter in their products?(Yes this is an allergy question)?
My son has an extreme peanut allergy and his older cousin gave him some Reese’s Pieces. He didn’t have a reaction to it but now two days later he has diarrhea and a low grade fever. I need to know if this candy has something in it that is causing his digestive problems, since he didn’t react the way he normally does to peanut products.
Serious replies only please. This is an allergy that can kill him.
Yes, I am very sure; I have witnessed this happening to him twice now. And I also found out that the fever IS unrelated.

Question by Corona: Has anyone ever had to take their child in for a food challenge test on something they have been allergic to?
In the past, my son has had severe reactions to cashews and pistachios, which for 2 years now we have carried an epi-pen and have had a lifestyle change in taking special precautions not to let him have any tree nuts. His blood tests have been showing he is growing out of these allergies and now the doctor wants to have him sit down and eat cashews and pistachios on separate days. I have see him grabbing his throat and have trouble breathing after eating these foods before we knew he was allergic. I am horrified to do this, but hopeful his life might be more normal if he doesn’t have to watch out for tree nuts in foods. Please share your story.
I guess I wasn’t clear. We had all the skin tests done over 3 years ago, which is why we have carried the epi-pen. Blood tests now are showing he is growing out of the allergies, but to be sure they have to actually feed him the food he is allergic to. This is an allergist, not a regular doctor. Sorry for the confusion. I will repost the question and try to word it differently as I am looking for people in my current situation.

You should talk to your doctor about giving your son a skin allergy test. That is where they prick the skin with a needle that has a small amount of different allergens on the tip. If there is a skin reaction and based on the size if the reaction is how they determine “how” allergic your child is to something. This test is given in a hospital(or should be) and depending on the child’s age some are requested to stay overnight for the reactions, some are allowed to go home and come back the next day.
I don’t know that I would allow my child to intake something that I KNOW makes him have a harsh and possibly life damaging reaction.
I was allergic to eggs and milk as a child and had this skin test done, I can’t say that it was fun or anything but I did learn a lot about what I was allergic to and what I wasn’t. The pin pricks are irritating and there is an urge to scratch so the test could be done on the arms or on the back, depending on the age of the child.
