Question by missC: Is my milk supply in danger of getting too low?
I’ve had really bad allergies the past week. My babies Dr said I could take Claritin once a day and it won’t affect my milk supply or hurt my baby. But i’ve also havn’t had an appetite and everything tastes icky anyway. I’ve lost 6 pounds just in this past week! I always drink alot of water so I stay hydrated. I’m not underweight or anything, I’m 5’6 and weigh 145 so I have plenty of fat already to go to produce milk. Do you think my milk supply will be okay then? Or do I need to force myself to eat more? My baby seems to be getting enough milk…he always gulps so loudly when he eats from me.
sorry, my baby is 9 months old

Breastfeeding does help you loose weight quickly. You did not mention how old your baby is, but in the first few weeks after childbirth it is quite appropriate to loose 6 pounds in a week as you loose the extra fluid you carry with you when you are pregnant.

If you are worried about your milk supply, look at your baby. If he seems satisfied after a feeding and is having enough wet diapers then your milk supply is sufficient for him.

I am temporarily feeding my infant soy formula for 3 weeks. Partly to check for a milk allergy but mainly so that I may take medication for my Crohn’s Disease. I plan to return to breastfeeding after I finish the meds. How often do I need to pump to maintain my milk. I have been getting about 6 pumping sessions in per day getting 4 ounces each time. My baby is almost 2 months. Is this enough pumping? My breasts seem to be keeping up so far. It’s been 3 days.
