By everything you have said yes you are still allergic to shell fish. It is extremely dangerous when you have an allergic reaction. What you should do is to go to your family doctor and have him set up an appointment with a specialist and they will verify that you are allergic to fish in the shellfish family. You need to do this asap so the doctors can advize you on what to have with you and what they can prescribe to you for this medical situation.

Question by asdfsdf: if you are not allergic to shrimp, can you still be allergic to iodine?
several months ago, i thought i was allergic to shrimp, seeing that i broke out into hives after eating them (it could have been other factors). but i recently got a blood allergy test, and i am not allergic to shrimp or shellfish or any seafoods. is it still possible that i might be allergic to the iodine in the shrimp and not the shrimp itself? or does the allergy test mean that i am neither allergic to shrimp nor iodine?
im pretty sure it isnt iodine.. because i eat fish and clams without any problems.. (and they are delicious)

Question by rona: Is it possible to still have celiac disease if you have tested negative for a gluten allergy?
A month ago I had a RAST blood test done for the following allergens: wheat and gluten. My results came back as slightly intolerant to wheat and negative for gluten. What I’m wondering is if this mean I’m in the clear or would I need a different test to make sure? I’d ask the allergy clinic about it but it’s a small office and the doctor is always really busy. —- Also, I read somewhere that if someone is intolerant to something, they can eventually re-introduce it back into their system after a substantial amount of time.. is this true and if it is, about how long should it be? —- Thanks :)
If I should be tested in a different manner who should I make an appointment with? An allergy clinic? or would I need to see a certain specialist for that?

Yes, because celiac’s is NOT a gluten ALLERGY at all. It’s a Gluten Intolerance, and the two are different things. They have similar symptoms, but are infact very different. I am gluten intolerant, but do not have celiac’s disease….nor do I have a wheat allergy.

Question by xnenaxo: I have eczema but I’m not allergic to wheat and diary, should I still stay away?
I heard that wheat and diary are bad for people who have eczema. But I’m not allergic to wheat, diary, peanuts, soy, etc, etc. I only have a food allergy to eggs and hazelnuts. Would it be safe to eat wheat, diary, etc? Or would it still cause a flare, even if you’re not allergic to those particular foods?

Answer by Dr. T
The type of immune reaction that typically affects eczema is a “delayed hypersensitivity” reaction. And this is difficult to detect with the normal immuno-assay tests.

Proteins in wheat and dairy are COMMON triggers for the delayed hypersensitivity cascade, but they’re not *always* involved. The best way to find out whether these specific foods play any role for you would be to eliminate them entirely for a few weeks. Observe whether there’s a change to your skin (or digestion, or concentration, etc.) And then re-introduce them to your diet one at a time… again, observing for changes.

If you eliminate with no change AND re-introduce with no change, it’s a pretty safe bet you personally do not react to these proteins.

VERY simplified explanation here… hope it still makes sense:
A reactive system will “over-react” to many stimuli. So if you see changes when you cut the above food groups out, but get no symptoms on re-introduction… chances are there’s something ELSE in your diet that is contributing to the problem. AND, as the whole system becomes less “reactive” you’ll find that you’re able to eat foods that may have previously been a problem.

Question by Mike G.: Nut allergies, please help clarify if i am still at risk?
hi, i’m anaphylactic when i ingest certain nuts, particularly tree nuts. I went to a tanning salon and i tried a lotion. When i left the salon i read the ingredients on the lotion and it said walnut shell extract. immediately i started to feel my heart race (panic attack i believe) so i rushed to the hospital, was seen, and apparently everything was ok. It is not the next morning, so about 14 hours after i applied the cream.

Is it possible that i can stil develop an anaphylactic reaction??, i’ve showered twice and so far i’ve been ok up until now. oh also my skin did not react at all, i just felt like i had a dry throat, it could have all been in my head and maybe did not react at all. please help clear my mind. thank you.
i made a typo, i meant to say it is NOW the next morning and i feel ok but still worried, applied cream 14 hours ago.
haha thanks kelly, to be hoenst i felt it was one of those things we all have to try.. i dont plan on applying this lotion again it was a sample but i just wanted to make sure i would be ok now after the fact.. your answer was enough to put me at ease and i thank you.

ps. done with the tanning beds, did not enjoy lol

Well mike problem number one you went to a tanning salon not say anything but that is not cool for a dude!!!

Next you can adsorb allergens through the the skin but they should not cause an anaphylactic shock. there has been rare cases that the allergens has cause the shock but that happens rarely (about 1 in 1 million) what i would do is try the cream again but only put it on a a single spot about the size of a quarter. If there is a rash or you feel the dry throat again then you know not to use products that contain nuts.

Hope this helps
