Question by NiNi: With dairy & egg allergies, how would I do in New Orleans, with all the seafood?
I’m heading to Louisiana for the first time soon, I live in Canada. I’m a bit worried because when I go to restaurants, I don’t have many options open to me because of my allergies; except fish (because they usually contain no dairy). Thankfully, I love seafood. But is it done differently in Louisiana? I’ve never been any where near the southern part of America, and I’m worried that most the food I’ll get in the restaurant would have milk or eggs in it. Please help me out here!

Louisiana is full of seafood. My bf and I went there this past march and most of the place were seafarrivedsteraunts. I would suggest looking up resteraunts online in the area you are going to be staying at. Alot of places have their menus online and from there you can get a general feel for what kind of food will be at what places.Hope I helped.Have an awesome trip, its fun down there!

Question by Charnell: What are the limitations to seafood allergies?
For the past 3 years or so (I’m 23) I’ve developed intense reactions from shellfish. I live in a country that eats a lot of shrimp and crawfish (and we’re currently in season; Sweden) and I’ve even developed reactions from the vapors of cooking said dishes.

I have since, out of fear, given up everything from the ocean except sea weed… but is it necessary? Can I still eat regular fish like salmon and tuna?

I live in a very seafood-eating environment, and I feel embarrassed every time I say no to celebratory dishes (especially since almost every celebration has dishes with pickles herring, smoked salmon and shrimps/crawfish).

Only your doctor can tell you for sure. Nobody here knows your case and an allergy like that can be very serious.

Question by XxsilencedxX: odd nut and seafood allergies?
ive had an allergy test about 9 years ago (for the second time) that came up as i was allergic to nuts and seafood among other things.

i used to be allergic to nuts pretty bad, but since 5 years ago i can eat peanuts just fine, im still allergic to tree nuts because i get sensitive to it when i smell it. However i can eat skor (and have been for many years) which i just found out has almonds in it.

when i was a kid i wasn’t allergic to all fish but since 12 years ago (now 20) i my ears and throat gets irritated when my parents cook it and i can smell it. Ive been eating canned tuna all of life without problems, i wanna know if any was allergic to fresh tuna and not canned tuna.

It sounds like you simply have poor digestion going on. Many times children, especially, have allergies or asthma because the mother did not breast feed them for two years. The inner lumen of the intestine does not close completely for 2 years from the time you were born. If you eat solid food before the two years, the intestine does not fully develop right and you get the booby prize, allergies or asthma. Breast milk contains about 55% saturated fat and is necessary to consume as an infant to allow your body to develop properly. Many women get on this low fat diet kick to get their figure back, but that is simply bad advice.

Doctors will tell people that “You will grow out of the problem” as you age. This is partially true and as you have experienced, differences in what you can eat and not eat has changed.

Proteins are broken down in the stomach by hydrochloric acid and if you are not making enough or it is not being utilized by your body, it will make it difficult to fully digest proteins, like fish. Nuts contain lots of good polyunsaturated fats that have been protected by nature in their shells and coatings. If your fat digestion is not working well, you will have problems digesting those as well.

I suggest you get with a nutritional therapist to determine if you have some deficiencies, test your digestive and elimination organs to determine if there is any insufficiencies and determine if your diet is what it should be to provide the nutrients and create a healthful body.

good luck to you

Question by _agape_: How to overcome peanut allergy? seafood allergy?

no, allergies are genetic, there is nothing you can do to get rid of them, you can supress them with allergy medicine but nothing will exterminate them. the food you are alergic too is viewed as a foreign invader and your body will launch a full immune response, sometimes as serious as to cause death. (closing of the throat) just make sure he stays away from those foods so it wont be a bother to his health.
