Question by Angela N.: My son (2yrs) has an allergic reaction to milk!?
This is pretty sad, he can’t drink any milk , i.e., lactose free, organic, whatever, he has the same reaction. It sounds like croup, as if his throat swells up, he can’t talk or cough, his noises are very airy. He can drink soy fine but since he is a developing boy I don’t like to give it to him that often. There seems to be a collation btw the amount of milk and the amount of time it takes for the reaction to go away. Has anyone ever experienced this, I know milk allergies are really rare and he doesn’t have any other known food allergies. (I will say this though, I almost wonder if it is an allergy to what the regions cows are eating as we never had these problems in Ca, and just got back from visit there, he was able to drink milk fine for about a week and then started having reactions).

Question by prairieprincess: Bad reaction to pasta?
I find that when I eat spaghetti, I feel extremely weak after wards and want to sleep for hours. I just ate some this afternoon — one plateful — and had to sleep afterwards. I woke up, and felt kind of delirious and confused. My stomach is very bloated and sore, still, two hours later.

Do you think is a sign of a wheat allergy? I do not have this reaction to bread, but only to pasta. I have tried cutting down on my portion size, but it seemed I still reacted.

thank you.

Pasta is a carb. Eating any carb makes you a/ sleepy and when you sleep during the day you wake up feeling doepy and confused.and b/it fills you up so you feel really bloated. I don’t think you have a wheat allergy I think that you are eating too much pasta. The amount of bread you can eat in comparison to pasta is very different. The next time you make pasta measure the dry pasta this way only use as much pasta as you can comfortably fit in a circle made by touching your forefinger to the tip of your thumb. That is a amount you should be eating. Not any more. Plus don’t eat a lot of bread or sauce with it. Eat it slowly and chew it thoroughly. I think you find it is much easier to digest and you won’t get as sleepy.

Question by allergies galore: Can a servere allergice reaction trigger new allergies?
About a year ago, I had an anaphylactic reaction to nuts. About two months after that, I started having severe problems with eczema and hives. The typical steroid creams have not been successful in treating it. Can a severe allergic reaction to one allergen, lead the development of a new, non-related allergy (i.e. wheat, dairy, etc?)

They don’t exactly lead from one into another; however, allergies are based on accumulation. The more often you are in contact with the item, the more the antibodies can build leading to worsening allergies. Many people find that their allergies change throughout life, and having one allergy increases the likelihood that you will have another.

Question by M: I had severe allergy reaction to hair dye and milk/ milk products – are these related and is there any cure ?
Is there any cure or relief available?

Best answer:

No and no cure. Yea you can take like benedryl, but being exposed over and over again will only make the allergy worse and you will eventually go into anaphylatic shock.

Question by Mackie JcDonald, Resurrected Again: Is this a normal reaction to peanut butter?
The corners of the inside of my mouth tingle when I eat peanuts/peanut butter. I can’t eat too much at once or else the tingling feeling becomes really uncomfortable. I’ve always thought this was normal, but the other day I saw my mom eat a Reese’s cup really fast, and there’s no way I could do that without the feeling becoming too overwhelming to keep eating.

This has happened all my life, I’m 18 now. I don’t have any food allergies, but a peanut allergy does run in my family. Does anyone know what this is?

It could very well be an allergy.

You might have Arachibutyrophobia. I know it seems silly, but it is a real disorder.
