Question by rozcro: Wheat allergy rash after vomitting??
My 9 yeard old daughter ate a lot of different types of food at a Brownie event yesterday. She ended up with a bad stomach ache & vomited around 2 in the morning. As soon as she threw up she developed a rash all over her body (it looked like poison oak). The rash has gotten gradually better today.

Could this possibly be a reaction to wheat? I am just starting to suspect she has a wheat allergy but I have never heard of it causing a poison oak like rash after throwing up.

Any advice appreciated!

you need to get a food allergy test for her asap. when there is vomiting and rash(hives) it can quickly turn to anaphalasis (difficulty breathing) and a fast drop in blood pressure and can lead to death if not treated.

you need to take her to the emergency room now, she may need to be treated.

Question by ForeverMe: Even if I’m not allergic to shellfish is it possible to get a rash from eating a lot of it?
I’ve heard of people with shellfish allergies and I’ve been eating it all my life with no problems. But recently I’ve developed a slight rash all over my face, dry, red (well more like pink) tiny bumps. I had A LOT of bbq oysters Friday night and noticed the rash Saturday. So even if I’m not allergic to shellfish is it possible to still have some sort of allergic reaction from eating a lot of it?

That IS an allergic reaction. If I eat shrimp I get an upset stomach that is an intolerance, not an allergic reaction like yours. Even if you could eat it before all your life, your body is always making new hormones and replacing those that are not being made any more. Which is the reason we develop allergic reactions other than it being genetic. Take that allergy seriously, because the next time you decide to want to eat that again it could be your throat that breaks out in a rash/hives and swells. Very common amongst sea food allergies.

Question by Jujube: Can a shellfish allergy just be a facial rash?
I had a baby 3 weeks ago, and I think I might have developed new allergies after delivery.

I am not sure what caused this, but I developed a hive on my face late Saturday night, and slowly a rash developed over my face the next couple of days. I look AWFUL (kind of like poison ivy without the puss).

I used benadryl to relieve the itching on Monday, and went to the MD yesterday who told me to take Claritin. So I did. I ate dinner (of Shrimp, which I had on Saturday night too…). At 12 PM my face was on FIRE! Itching, more bumps, more swelling.

I have NO other symptoms. But the claritin is NOT helping the itching.

Can you have a food/shellfish allergy without any other symptoms (no nausea, throat itching/swelling, etc.)?

My 4 month old daughter has a diaper rash where it looks like the top layer of skin has burned off in some places. It’s not too bad but I’m still concerned. Her stool is a little runny with tiny lumps in it. She has been on this formula for a little over a month but I know allergy’s can build up over time. I let her eat about a tablespoon of organic rice cereal about 3 days ago. I also bought her some new diaper wipes but they say hypoallergenic. Do you think it’s the wipes or the formula. I’m almost sure it’s the formula. The brand is Baby’s only organic milk based.
