Question by Cassie: Avoiding Peanuts While Pregnant?
What do other mum’s think about this? Could eating peanuts while pregnant really raise your baby’s risk of a peanut allergy?

If this is true then why aren’t we told to avoid milk in case the baby becomes allergic to dairy?

My thoughts are that it’s probably a myth, but I’ll steer clear of the delicious nuts just in case. What do you think?

Question by I’m a Mommy ?: 15 weeks pregnant: Shrimp allergy – hubby is allergic, should I avoid them too?
I’m 15 weeks pregnant and the doctors office isn’t open today to ask them so I though I’d just ask you all what you’ve heard.

My husband and his father are both allergic to shrimp. I was reading an article on what you should and shouldn’t eat (myth vs. fact) when pregnant. Two myths were shellfish and peanuts/peanut butter but then it went on to say that they were OK to eat “unless your family has a history of allergies to these foods”. Of course, I just happened to read this after a lovely fried shrimp lunch! I’ve also had shrimp several times over the last few months because it is on the “safe fish” list. I informed my doctor at my initial appointment that he was allergic to shrimp but nothing was said to me about not eating it. I was just told not to put another piece of tuna in my mouth until after the baby was born.

So, have you heard anything about avoiding foods if there is a family allergy to them?

I’m thinking of a hereditary allergy that the baby may inherit from his dad’s side of the family.

I’m confused. Did you want to feed your baby powdered formula or are you talking about something for yourself?

Powdered formula won’t hurt your baby but breast milk is best.

Question by jen: Do you still eat peanuts while pregnant?
I’ve heard it’s bad, but I’ve also heard it’s fine as long as your family doesn’t have peanut allergies.

Just wondering.
