Question by tonireese0314: What possible medical reasons can cause unexplained weight gain?
I had Gastric Bypass 3.5 yrs ago. In the last 6 mo. I have been steadily gaining weight. I eat right. I don’t eat anything that I shouldn’t. I have even cut out things that I thought MIGHT cause problems, i.e potatoes and rice. I don’t eat any wheat based products (I have an allergy to wheat) I stick to meat veggies, fruit, and some dairy. If I allow myself a treat, it is a sugarfree popsicle, or fudgesicle. I am very fustrated. I have gained about 40lbs and it is scaring the heck out of me. I would have to say the only bad thing that I do, is probably not get enough exercise. But even at that I am probably only eating between 1200-1500 tops in calories, but I have put on 4lbs in 2days. I am going to go insane if I can’t find the answers. A friend suggested that maybe I am eating to much fruit. As far as the lack of exercise, I can understand maybe not losing, but the gain is what is so puzzling. This is why I am looking at maybe a medical reason. I did have my thyroid checked, its okay

My godmother had a cyst in her tummy for years without even knowing. She thought she was just gaining weight, but it was actually the cyst growing. This or a tumor could cause it, you should really see a doctor.

Question by lorettalynn8762: Possible milk allergy?
My son is 18 months old and he’s been drinking whole milk since he turned 1 with no problems. Well for about the last week, every time he has milk he immediately (within 15 minutes) has a horrible diaper. It is yellow and REALLY runny. I am wondering if it might be an allergy to the milk? Maybe something is irritating his tummy? Has anyone else had this? Anyone have any ideas what it might be? Thank you so much in advance!

Everyone that I know who is allergic to milk gets a bad stomach ache, and has to run to the bathroom pretty much right after having it. You can try switching to Lactaid or a Soy milk and see if it helps, then you will know.

Question by blue_eyed_girl: Dr.’s appt. tomorrow for my 2 year old – possible wheat/gluten allergies – Any tips on what to ask?
I posted a couple questions yesterday, and thank you to everyone who took the time to answer. I made an appt. with our ped. tomorrow for my son to look into the possible wheat/gluten issues.

He has chronic diarrhea which we thought was due to milk/soy allergies. Those have been removed from his diet but the diarrhea continues.

From what I’ve gathered, I’m going to ask for a blood test to check his IgG4 levels and his IgE levels, correct?

My son also has received physical therapy, developmental therapy and is currently receiving speech therapy. There has been no mention of the word “autism” yet, but after hours of research last night it seems that this may all be combined in some way. Anyone with similar experiences?

A family friend who is a GI doctor at a major children’s hospital dismisses this as “toddler’s diarrhea” but I have a gut feeling it is more. I’ve learned to trust your instinct as it is usually right on target!

Thank you for any tips or advice!
