My daughter is almost 3, we figured out that she has a full blown milk allergy as well as a soy allergy. We have already taken out Milk, yogurt and most cheese. We were kind of testing it ourselves to make sure that was what it is. It was confirmed by the doctor. We just found out that we have to take out EVERYTHING that has milk in it because it is that bad. So my sweet little girl can’t have the things she loves anymore… yogurt, cheese, cheese crackers. And I am noticing that milk is in EVERYTHING. My question is what fun things can she still eat. I feel like I am totally depriving my child. And it is making me really sad.

At 3 years old, she will not know about foods that she cannot have. You just don’t eat these products in front of her or, you find an appropriate substitute. You read the labels, stick to wholesome foods rather than processed foods and you will not have any problems. And, there is not milk in everything. There are breads made that have no milk in them, there are cookies that have no milk in them (homemade ones for sure). She can learn to drink water, juice with her meals. If you give the indication you are depriving her, she will pick up on this. You need to not give her any indication there are foods she CANNOT have but all the foods you provide will be the ones she can have and she will learn to eat only those.

We had a daughter with a severe milk allergy and have been down this road and you just take it in stride. We used only whole foods and she never knew about the “bad” foods until she got into school and by that time, we had taught her to make good food choices so that she wouldn’t be so congested all the time. You teach what is good for them and avoid talking about the things she doesn’t need in her diet.

Is she losing the fur in patches or is it a general hair thinning?
If you have ruled out all other possible causes and as she is so young and small, she could be suffering from stress. This can show as excessive grooming. If she is a pedigree, they can be more sensitive than ‘moggies’ so are more prone to stress, but ‘moggies’ can still get this. If she is one of six, she may be finding it hard to establish her place in the tribe and may need extra love and encouragement until she settles.
The other possibility is that she has an allergy to something she eating.
She may need to see a vet to find out the real cause of this but that is just a couple of suggestions for you to work on for now.

This happened to a cat of mine, she was also a little smaller that the other cat, and a lot more active. I took her to the vet and he diagnosed her as having hyperthyroidism. She got put on medication–which would be needed forever. Later the cat got tired of taking the pills and ran away from home! Anyway the fur was thinning like you describe and not falling out in patches or clumps. You need to take the cat to the vet and if he doesn’t check the thyroid you might suggest it.

no – allergies is a condition, not a disease. It can be hereditary (passed through genes from conception). Allergies can NOT be passed through breast milk.

I Know Human Babies Can Be, But Can A Puppy Develope An Allergy To His Mother’s Milk?

The new puppies started weaning a week ago. I got them the ‘Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover’s Soul’. It’s one of the best, non-garbage, foods that I can afford on a regular basis.
All has been well except one thing. About three days ago (four days after beginning weaning) one of the puppies has started throwing up the milk every time she feeds from her mother. I watched him like a hawk, and I’ve been keeping regular weight-watching. He eats his food just fine. He drinks his water just fine.
He’s not puking up his food at all not even after he feeds. It’s pure milk that comes out.
I’m wondering if it’s some kind of strange developed allergy he’s got or if that’s even possible in a canine. Should I just go ahead and try to stop him from feeding on her since he’s eating and not throwing up food or water? If I do stop letting him feed on her what sort of supplement, if any, should I give him? He’s playing and vibrant as the rest so it looks like his nutritional needs are being met. He’s probably absorbing at least a tiny bit of milk before throwing up the rest. Maybe it’s just that this particular puppy doesn’t need the extra vitamins so it’s rejecting it (like I do when I take too much iron).
Genetics won’t help me here as these are mutt puppies from my rescue that came pregnant. The previous ‘owner’ didn’t know she was pregnant when we rescued her, and couldn’t begin to fathom what sort of dog is the father. I know I’ll end up calling the vet tomorrow to make sure, but it’s late and I can’t sleep so if I can get feedback, why not try, eh?

My baby is coming up on 5 months. My baby is/ has been colicky, spits up frequently, sometimes 2-3 times after every feeding, violent explosive poops, green poop, slimy poop. She used to poop every other day, now she poops 5-6 times a day. I think it is diarrhea. How did you figure out it was a food allergy and what did you do about it?
