Question by NJ123: 8 month old allergies!?
Hi I have a question! My son is 8 month old and when he was about 1 month we were told, not by any test, but by our pediatrician that he had milk allergies. We did have some problems, screaming gas, acid reflux. So at 8 months I bought regular soy milk, the next night he was up all night not crying but farting alot, not sure why. I looked up online that there is a 10% chance that he could be allergic to both. Is this the most probable answer? the only thing is wouldn’t it affect him the same night I gave it to him and wouldn’t he be screaming in pain? Also is there still a chance that he could get over this allergy? I sure hope so I couldn’t imagine a life with out eating milk products.

It’s more likely to be a lactose intolerance than an actual allergy. You should get a second opinion from another doctor.

Question by The Coolest Mommy Ever: SUDDEN milk allergy in a 16 month old?
My son is 16 month old. Last night for dinner, he had maybe three bites of my caesar salad, but wouldn’t eat much else. He had milk before bed, which is normal. He absolutely LOVES milk, it’s his drink of choice, and he drinks it all the time.
This morning he woke up, and wouldn’t eat breakfast. About half an hour later, he threw up. I thought maybe it was the caesar dressing, because he’d never had it before.
he puked two more times, all in about an hour and a half. I thought it was out of his system, because after his nap, he seemed much better. he wouldn’t drink water, but he’s never really liked it. we didn’t want to give him milk, so we gave him some Gatorade.
He did fine on the gatorade, and kept it down for about four hours. He was hungry, so my husband gave him a sandwich with turkey and mayo, and a little milk to drink. he kept that down so my husband then gave him some yogurt! =( about 45 minutes later, he puked all of the yogurt and milk up.

that makes four times that he’s thrown up today+
-*nd he seems able to keep everything down but dairy products. milk allergy runs in my family, so im wondering if that could be it? He doesn’t seem to have the flu, because he’s quite happy when he’s not trowing up. But can an allergy to milk come up so sudden?

it happens, my sister was like that for a while, but she grew out of it. you should probably have a doctor check him out though just in case

Question by moony: Is wheat ok for my 8 month old?
I made some spaghetti and I mixed some whole wheat pasta, yams, green beans, tomatoes sauce, and spaghetti sauce. Is 8 months to young to give him pasta, I don’t want him to develop an allergies
I have given him baby food from the store (pasta dinner) and he seemed fine w/ that.

It depends on his feeding history.
Has he already had each ingredient on its own and shown no tummy troubles with them? If so then you are fine giving him some of that dinner. If he hasn’t yet “tested” each ingredient though you might want to hold off and expose him to each one individually first just as you did when he first started solids.

Question by Madison’s mommy <3: Giving my 10 month old Whole Milk and skip the formula?
I know that you are not supposed to give whole milk until the baby is a year old, but I was wandering if any of you started earlier than a year? If you started at around 11 months, what would be the harm as long as the baby has no allergies?

At 11 months you can do half whole milk half formula so that they get used to the whole milk

Question by estkijedsco: should an 11 month old still be getting jarred baby food?
just curious because my dr isnt really clear with me and this is my first time! anyway my daughter is 11 months and i do give her some “real” food…like cheerios, beans, bananas, etc. but i also still feed her jars. Should i cut the jars out and feed her the same dinners that i eat? Im just nervous about the egg, milk and wheat allergy as i only have wheat bread and products… yes i know to buy other stuff for her but im concerned about white bread not being the helathier choice. thanks!

That’s fine. It all depends on your child-is she ready for table foods? If not, jars are fine. My son got teeth late, so he was 14 months before we cut jar food completely.
