Question by Bruce & Kelly: Toddler son is allergic to milk, soy, and grape products PLEASE HELP!!!!!?
Son went to a endocrine diabetic specialist because of restricted weight gain. Doctor asked to put him on pediasure twice a day with his normal diet and nutramigen. He was on nutramigen because of milk allergies but, the specialist thought it was perfect timing to introduce it back to him and see how well he does. Very bad results on this behalf therefore, we had to go back to the doctor. They decided to do some allergy tests and the results showed he is allergic to milk and soy products. He is also allergic to grapes, raisins, grave flavoring etc. (as we found that out the hard way in the ER).

My problem is I have to read very closely to labels and almost everything has soy in it. I did get some almond milk, and managed to find some toddler meal stuff that was milk/soy free but does anyone have more examples. I hate going to the grocery store and holding everyone up while I look at every ingredient because i HAVE too.

Also, what can I use as a butter substitute in mashed potatoes. I have the unsweetened almonds milk as a replacement for cooking but any ideas for butter? Bread seems to have soy in every brand of it as well any ideas on this route? Please help I am so lost….I would like to be able to make meals for my entire family of 6 rather than make him eat something completely different. It upsets him when he can’t have what we have because, he does not understand!!!!

Thanks in advance…

I know how you feel. I have 30 pages worth of Food Allergies. Here are a great website to help you out.

Just ignore the part about the dairy. The dairy is easier, try using products that contain Almond/Rice Milk, and there are also alot of products that don’t contain soy or dairy at all. You just have to read the back of the packages. I know it’s annoying. I have to stand there and read it myself. It’s hard when your a toddler, It’s just something he has to get used to, otherwise don’t eat what HE can’t eat in front of him.

Question by ?S?: Does my baby have a milk/soy allergy?
Milk and soy allergies do run in my sons family. My two step children have autism and cannot eat milk or soy products. He started on formula a month ago and was constipated, fussy and gassy. So we switched to good start and his constipation went away but his gas and fussiness did not. He also developed a rash on his face. We then switched him to Good Start Soy. He did better immediately but still is occasionally fussy and his rash has came back and is now on both sides of his cheeks and his neck. Ever since I switched him to formula he has had a congested nose that I have read can be a milk/soy allergy symptom. Should we switch him from Good Start Soy to Similac Alimentum?

Thanks!
Forgot to add…he is two and a half months old.

He might have an allergy but I would suggest you call his pediatrician and let them tell you what you should do. The alimentum formula works wonders for baby’s with sensitive bellies. Hope things get better I know it’s rough when your little one’s not feeling well

What do you think? Answer below!

My little boy is only 5 weeks old… he has some issues with crying alot and spitting up ALOT… i mean even when he hasnt just ate… He started out on similac advanced.. then was switched to Enfamil A.R. for his refluxing.. it helped with the reflux, but it made his poop to hard and he cried and cried and was very gassy and fussy… so then we were told he had a milk/soy protein allergy and reflux.. and we were switched to Nutramigen formula and zantac 3 times a day… Well the throwin up got worse (im guessing because the nutramigen is so thin) but the crying and sleeping got better…. So the doc now wants to add Prevacid 30 mg solutab once a day along with the zantac .7ml 3 times a day to see if that helps the throwin up. My question is…. How do they know he is milk/soy protein allergic, i mean wat are the symptoms to that… he never had diarrea or bloody poop… .. What if he just has reflux and can take regular Formula instead of the Nutramigen now that we know he has the reflux and is gettin medicine for it… Because when he was on the Regular formula he wasnt being treated for the reflux yet…

My son is 10.5 months old and was diagnosed as having a milk/soy allergy. What do other mother’s give their kids to drink? I tried hypoallergenic and Elecare, and he won’t drink it.
