Question by hearts_bleed_dark: Is it okay to mix milk with formula to get my seven month old used to it or should i not use milk til 1 year?
my husband wants me to start mixing milk with his formula and I have always heard that if you give a child milk before they are a year old it can cause them to have worse allergies.. he’s almost eight months, and a friend of ours did this with their child at five months but im just not sure about it.

Question by stressed: My son is 11 mos old on elecare formula? what is the next formula to try with less milk or soy?
IF he even has an allergy it’s an intestinal one as he tested negative to milk and soy by patch and blood work. The only way we will know is by oral challenge. We want to take him to something with less milk or less proteins so it’t not a hard adjustement on his system.

If he is severely allergic try a fully hydrolyzed formula such as Nutragimen AA. Some babies are able to stomach some milk proteins (my daughter is also allergic) and you can try him on goats milk..but if you see a reaction starting stop usage straight away and give piriton. I personally wouls stick to the fully hydrolyzed formula until you know for sure what it is hesallergic too exactly.

Question by Braedyn’s Mommy ?: Strange Bowel Movements when switched to whole milk??
My son has been on Similac Alimentum since he was 3 months for colic and cow’s milk protein allergies. He is a yr. old and he has recently been doing some formula and some whole milk. His BM’s have been very strange, sometimes orange and red. And he is also having them more than normal. Is this normal in the transition to whole milk.. or should I be concerned. Any help would be appreciated (:

Question by paper_abby: What does a MILK allergy look like??? HELP, new mom and so confused.?
I am hoping someone can offer me some advice or help pls!! My baby is 8weeks old and has been on Similac Advance from the hospital on. He is gaining weight well and otherwise seems like a healthy baby.
BUT here is the part that I am so torn and confused about. I am at my wits end and so frustrated. Lately and actually as the weeks go on it seems like he is not doing so well on his formula. I am noticing the following:
Cramps as where he brings his legs up to his stomach
Constant hard farts but not constipated
Not finishing all his bottles and when he does finish he cries sometimes
Plus he is always, always fussy and fidgity.
WHAT is wrong?? Can someone pls tell me if it seems like he might have a milk allergy?? Do you think I should try Soy?? I mean this can not be right?
Any suggestions would be so helpful??
YES I would believe it could be an intolerance not an allergy as well. So would you think that switching to Soy would help then?
Also if I do switch him to Soy, later on in life he would be able to go back to Milk right, if he was allergic?
No he has never had bloody stools, and he did try the goodstart but it did not help either. If he has to “grow” out of this phase why would that be? Does anyone think that it could just be that?

Question by Lindsay: Is it the stomach flu or a milk allergy in my 2 month old?
My son just turned 2 months old. Last weekend we all had a stomach bug and we thought that maybe he had escaped it until he started throwing up. He only threw up 3 bottles in about 3 days. He had no diarrhea at this point and was completely himself and eating normally other than throwing up a bottle a day. After that stopped he then had the diarrhea but it also his stools had some mucous in them as well as little tinges of blood. He went to the pediatrician today and she doesn’t think it’s the flu, but instead a milk allergy. She did say though that there is a possibility that his bowels are just irritated from the diarrhea and that’s why there is a little blood but most times its due to milk allergy. She gave me nutramigen, a non milk based formula, to start giving him(he was on similac advance). The first bottle of this new formula he threw up, so I don’t really know what to think. I will be seeing her again on Friday, but am curious if anyone else has insight on this. Thank you!

it does take a few days for formula to regulate in the body. I would give some pedialyte to help with hydrating your baby and wait a few more days to see if baby can stomach the new formula.
