Question by flourpower: Could my little girl have a milk allergy?
My daughter is 5 months old now. She is bottle fed, and we have had her on just regular dairy based formula. Since she was about a month old she has always spit up quit a bit after every bottle. We talked to her ped. about it and she suggested that “we feed her too much at one time” so we cut back and it didn’t change anything. When I asked the ped. again she said the same thing. (Ugh.) So I started to think perhaps it was reflux. I switched her over to Enfamil AR, which has rice starch in it so it is thicker, supposed to help with spitting up. It seemed to help for maybe a day or two but the spitting up seems to be back to normal now. I am wondering if she might have a milk protein intollerance? She recently has been having lots of small diarrhea like bowel movements, usually when she is eating, her stool is mucusy, she seems to be in pain when she is eating (arching her back, kicking out her legs, crying, pulling bottle out of her mouth), and just today I noticed a small rash on her arm. I am wondering if these sound like a milk protein allergy to anybody, or if anybody has expirienced similar symptoms? I know I should cal her ped. and ask her but everytime I bring up a concern she just says the same thing, that I am feeding her too much too often or that I don’t burp her enough, etc. Any suggestions/ideas/input is very helpful! Thank you!!

My girl has a milk allergy and didn’t have any spitting up or rashes but was absolutely miserable, screaming all day and she did pull away, arch her back and have bloody/mucousy stools. The pulling/arching could have been anything related to discomfort, but the bloody diapers sealed the deal that it was an allergy. We switched her to Alimentum and she was a new baby in a few days.

Question by irasyazreen: recipe for toodler with cow’s milk allergy.?
hye. i have an one year old son who is allergy to cow’s milk since he was one month old, that mean he cannot consume anything that contains diary products such as yogurt, cheese, butter, etc. but he can handle soy milk as my doctor suggested it and he seems to have no problem with soy milk.
i always seek for healthy recipe for my son as i didnt like to buy baby’s food in a jar because most of them contains diary products. But the problem now is, many of the recipe that i found also included ingredients such as butter, heavy cream, cheese and yogurt. do u guys have any other recipe that do not contain any of these ingredients.?
i desperately need your help. i want my son to grow up healthy like others.

Question by Aubrielle’s mommy: Is it possible my baby has a cow’s milk allergy?
My daughter is 5 months. She has always been a VERY fussy baby. I love her, but sometimes i feel like i’m going crazy. She was exclusively breastfed until 2 weeks ago. She has her good days where she’s pretty content but then she has EXTERMELY fussy days where she just screams her head off. I recently put her on formula and she was doing really good for a few days then today she had one of her “screams her head off most of the day” days. She also has eczema that I have a hard time getting rid of. Anyways, my question is, could all of this fussiness and eczema be related to her having a cows milk allergy? I never cut dairy out of my diet…I never really thought to until i read an article right now about the allergy. and the formula she is on right now is Goodstart gentle which is made from cows milk. She isn’t fussy like this EVERYDAY so if she did in fact have a cows milk allergy would her fussiness be daily or would it come and go as hers does?

I’m just trying to find an answer as to why she has such bad days sometimes. It breaks my heart cuz i just don’t know what to do anymore.

thanks everyone

look for other signs like throwing up, unusual red “circle” like rash around her anus, and if shes breaking out anywhere but her face.

its possible she could just be adjusting to formula…i would call the doctor though just to be sure.

Question by : Nutrition/Meal Replacement Shakes for Vegans and Milk Allergy?
I am vegan and I do have a milk allergy. I have a weight issue and I am supposed to drink these to gain weight. Apparently eating 4 meals a day and having a bmi of 16 isn’t okay. Anyways, I had been drinking Ensure Plus (350 calories a bottle) and it had been making me sick. Stupid enough, I hadn’t checked it for milk. And it did in fact have milk in it.

Is there any other nutrition shakes you can buy. I don’t really want to fart around with powdered ones, I like the ones that come in bottles. Vanilla is my favourite. Oh, and I’m in USA, PA, and I’d like to be able to get these in grocery stores.

Question by M: Can I breastfeed thru a milk allergy?
I have a 2 mo old son with a suspected milk allergy. I have seen mucus in his stool and he is VERY
fussy at night after nursing all day. I have eliminated milk from diet with no change in baby. I do not want to stop breastfeeding – HELP!
The doctor suspects milk allergy. I have to give one bottle per day to get baby ready for daycare, that is when the crying started (3 weeks old)…we have switched from milk based to soy formula and now nutramigen. He is also on Zantac to see if it is acid reflux.

Who suspects the allergy? Is it you or his doctor? Are you sure he isn’t colic? Sounds a bit like colic to me. My baby girl was colic and sounds just llike yours. If you havent already, check with his doctor about these symptoms. It is rare that breastfed babies have allergic reaction to what you eat. It can happen, but it isn’t extremely common.
