Our daughter is 3.5 weeks old and we noticed a very small amount of blood (was very hard to even see) in her stool. Pediatrician told to stop milk diet – without doing any tests. I don’t want to do that without getting some sort of confirmation. Anyone else gone through this with such a young baby.

My little boy is only 5 weeks old… he has some issues with crying alot and spitting up ALOT… i mean even when he hasnt just ate… He started out on similac advanced.. then was switched to Enfamil A.R. for his refluxing.. it helped with the reflux, but it made his poop to hard and he cried and cried and was very gassy and fussy… so then we were told he had a milk/soy protein allergy and reflux.. and we were switched to Nutramigen formula and zantac 3 times a day… Well the throwin up got worse (im guessing because the nutramigen is so thin) but the crying and sleeping got better…. So the doc now wants to add Prevacid 30 mg solutab once a day along with the zantac .7ml 3 times a day to see if that helps the throwin up. My question is…. How do they know he is milk/soy protein allergic, i mean wat are the symptoms to that… he never had diarrea or bloody poop… .. What if he just has reflux and can take regular Formula instead of the Nutramigen now that we know he has the reflux and is gettin medicine for it… Because when he was on the Regular formula he wasnt being treated for the reflux yet…

My daughter is almost 8 months old. When she was born she was on normal infant formula (enfamil) and she was extremely irritable, vomiting, loose bowels, etc. so at 2 months we switched her to soy formula (isomil). she does great on isomil except for the fact that it makes her extremely constipated, she is on a stool softener, prunes, pears etc and it barely helps, she still passes only tiny pellets of stool. At 5 months she had allergy/intolerance tests done and they were negative, no reaction. So at 7 months i tried switching her back to enfamil and she went crazy! i felt so awful for her, she vomited, wouldnt sleep, and was extremely fussy. after 4 days i said enough is enough and put her back on soy. I recently noticed that if I fed her a small container of yogurt (i had been feeding her a small container 1 a day so that she got dairy products) she would become extremely ill for the rest of the evening or the rest of the afternoon, depending what meal she ate it at.
SO – my question is if anyone has had negative results for their children?? She has a specialist pediatrician appointment but unfortunately this does not occur until september (ridiculous, i know)

Our family doesn’t have a history of allergies but I can’t give my 11 month old any type of dairy product, not even the milk based formula. So I have been giving her Isomil(SP?) It’s a soy based formula and she seems to like it. I am trying to wean her so this is what she’s been drinking. So try the soy stuff and there is also some lactose free formula. I think Similac makes it. Or maybe it’s Enfamil. Actually they probably both have it. Good luck!

One doc says that since it is an allergy, it doesn’t matter how much dairy I eat – even a little bit will affect my baby. Another doc says dairy in moderation is OK. Who’s right?
