Question by liza1979: They put my 2 month old infant to nutramigen secondary to milk allergy.?
We’ve been doing hemoccult test to check if theres still blood in his stool and always turned out positive. Its been 3 weeks now and the test is always positive. His pediatrician told us to stick with the nutramigen and observe him and the stool. Is there anybody out there that experienced our situation right now? And also what did you do or did your pediatrician do to resolve the problem? Please reply I am very worried

Question by DWeg: Infant with wheat allergy?
Does anyone have a child who had a wheat allergy when they were an infant or toddler? Not gluten allergy, but wheat allergy. Did they grow out of it? When should we try it again?

My son is 23 months old and he breaks out in a rash from head to toe from wheat. Now that he’s older, we’ve accidentally given it to him on a few occasions. And boy, oh boy, did he itch! : (

Any experience with this would be appreciated. I will be seeing his doctor in about 6 weeks, so I will be asking him these questions. But, until then, I need some comfort!

My girlfriend (whom I currently live with) has a wheat+gluten allergy, unfortunately only a very few percentage of sufferers ever ‘grow out’ of it. If you do decide to, do so with as small amount of wheat as possible and give your child an anti-histamine to help with the itches (But you *must* check this with a doctor first for young children)

The main problem with such allergies is that they can cause severe stomach upsets which make sufferers more sensitive to foods which may not have previously been a problem. Thankfully, there are plenty of wheat/gluten alternatives. Any major supermarket will be carrying a range of wheat-free breads, biscuits, etc…

Being young is especially difficult because there aren’t a great number of wheat-free baby foods, so you may be best off making home-made baby food using mashed vegetables and wheat-free bread. You can make it in large batches and freeze it to be defrosted later to save on hassle.

Hope that is of some use to you :)

I have a 5 month old and he started to develop rashes under his eyes and neck ONLY. His usual formula changed its protein from somethin else to cow’s milk. so is this allergies from the milk? I live in a country with very hot and humid environment but its the rainy season now so i dont think its the heat. He also started consuming solids. I have given him carrots and papaya already (homemade) cud this be it?

The Department of Health warns against routine use of soy-based infant formulas because of the high content of phytoestrogens – compounds that mimic the action of the female hormone oestrogen. It is feared this could pose a risk to the long-term reproductive health of infants boys/girls i.e severe problems such as abnormal physical development, early puberty, conception, pregnancy, and cancers.
This has been known for several years though not wide public knowledge – infact some GPs still recommend soya as a suitable replacement for a child with milk allergy/intolerance!
Babies are usually allergic to both kinds of milk.
