Question by Mel: Cannot Have Wheat, Dairy or Sugar – Help!?
i’m 18 and female. i recently started going to a natural medicine doctor and had an ALCAT food allergy panel. most of what i’m allergic to are things i eat almost everyday. i don’t have reactions, like hives, to anything. so far all i’ve noticed is that when i have dairy, my stomach hurts. apparently, i am also allergic to the following….

severely – pecans; moderately – yeast, cashews, cauliflower, cow’s milk, grapes, green peas, green peppers, millet, mustard, pineapple, salmon, shrimp, snapper, sole, summer squash, tuna, gluten, wheat, oats, rye and barley!

these are things i (used to) eat a lot that i’m going to add into my 4 day rotation: beef, potatoes, turkey, corn, broccoli, and rice. and by the way, i’m from kansas, so i was raised on beef and potatoes and am very sad i can’t eat them anymore!

SO now my doctor said i cannot have any type of dairy, grain or sugar. does anyone have any recipes or advice to make eating this way easier? i am so frustrated.
please don’t insult me. i do not go to a “witch doctor”. i go to a respected doctor who is well known for helping austistic children. i never even said i was allergic to sugar! this is in addition to everything else. i also have a thyroid problem, so in conjuction with that, the foods i eat make me very tired and irratible. my dad has been having the same problems for years. this doctor is an answer to my prayers.

Best answer:

Answer by bekahbabe001
Maybe you should get a second opinion… If you only notice pain/irritation from eating dairy, perhaps you’re only allergic to that? Its just a suggestion, but if I were you I would get a second opinion before giving up all those foods!

Anyway, you can have soy milk in place of cow’s milk, and there are tons of great tasting vegetarian and vegan cheeses/yogurts/ice cream out there that you can have in place of dairy.

Question by shallan a: could this be a food allergy? HELP!?
I am having some trouble finding out what it is i am eating that is causing me problems. every once in a while i get really bad gas often accompanied by diarrhea and/or nausea. i suspect milk and cut a lot of dairy products out, and now drink enriched rice milk, but the last few days i have been obviously eating something else that has negative effects on me, i have been eating a lot of wheat so maybe gluten? and also the last 3 days or so Ive eaten a lot of strawberries, could this be a strawberry allergy that ive suddenly developed/noticed.

any information on: allergies, development of allergies in adulthood (im 22), personal experiences, irritable bowl syndrome, anything i would welcome. I’m just at a loss, i really don’t know what this could be.

oh! other then this i am healthy and active, don’t eat fast food etc so it isn’t just poor diet in general.

Best answer:

Answer by Pj
Ok, I have lots of allergies, so I might be able to help. I would say to try different things, test different foods, and see what they do to you. Also, you need to keep in mind any and all environmental factors that could be aggravating our allergies. Bottom line, go see an allergist, and seek medical attention if your symptoms intensify severely.

I got a food allergy test because I wanted to know which foods I might be allergic to and this is what came back:
Wheat
Oats [highest]
Corn
Rice
Soy
Tomato [mild]
Strawberry [mild]

Am I screwed in the food department because all the normal alternatives like soy, rice and corn or on the list? Like if I didn’t want to eat wheat I can’t have corn or rice pasta! What could I choose?
Also with dairy, I avoid dairy but if I can’t have soy, rice or oat milk what can I have?
oh ok thanks proud mamma for helping me!
what is the “Food challenge”? is it where you test your heart rate?
i don’t get rashes from the foods but i do think i get heightened anxiety attacks after eating the foods and my chest feels heavy.
no i did another blood test and it said i wasn’t celiac yet i have wheat listed, hm

Question by paper_abby: What does a MILK allergy look like??? HELP, new mom and so confused.?
I am hoping someone can offer me some advice or help pls!! My baby is 8weeks old and has been on Similac Advance from the hospital on. He is gaining weight well and otherwise seems like a healthy baby.

BUT here is the part that I am so torn and confused about. I am at my wits end and so frustrated. Lately and actually as the weeks go on it seems like he is not doing so well on his formula. I am noticing the following:

Cramps as where he brings his legs up to his stomach
Constant hard farts but not constipated
Not finishing all his bottles and when he does finish he cries sometimes
Plus he is always, always fussy and fidgity.

WHAT is wrong?? Can someone pls tell me if it seems like he might have a milk allergy?? Do you think I should try Soy?? I mean this can not be right?

Any suggestions would be so helpful??
YES I would believe it could be an intolerance not an allergy as well. So would you think that switching to Soy would help then?

Also if I do switch him to Soy, later on in life he would be able to go back to Milk right, if he was allergic?
No he has never had bloody stools, and he did try the goodstart but it did not help either. If he has to “grow” out of this phase why would that be? Does anyone think that it could just be that?

Question by Ella: Celiac and Dairy Allergy cooking for kids? Help please!?
Next week a friend of mine and her family are coming to stay for the weekend. This is great as her kids and mine get on great – the only problem is the cooking. Each of her three kids has an allergy to food – whereas mine have none!
Six year old – is a celiac (wheat and gluten)
Four Year Old and Two Year Old – Dairy Products.

Could you please give me some meal ideas that I could cook for all kids, I don’t want to cook two meals for them.

Thank you any ideas will be great Lunch, Snacks or Dinner.
I have found potato based foods work well. So mash, boiled potatos etc. I make pies with Mash on top rather than pastry. If your child won’t eat meat try potato and lentil pie.
I have found many stores off specialist pastas some are good. So therefore lasagnas etc can be made!
I am really stuck with the dairy problem tough especially puddings.

Best answer:

Answer by Super Nanny
ohh your kid has celiacs and lactose intolerance ..MINE too! What can they eat besides this awful bland diet for life? Mine wont eat meat so its fish veggies and nongluton grains

Question by Cindy: Dog allergy/ skin problem help? (People with experience)?
Ok, so I have a black lab mix (after reading some questions on here it seems black labs are prone to skin problems?) who has chronic skin infections, itching, food allergies, and anything else you can name in the book.

I have taken my dog to two different vets. We have had him for nine months and he has had four skin infections. He is constantly scratching, and biting his bum area. My former vet didn’t want to figure out the problem, he just wanted to cover it up by giving him a supplement that made him shed less. I took him to another vet who said loosing hair around his butt area is always food allergy. So, since nobody around here does allergy testing ( I don’t know why?) I have been trying to figure out what my dog is allergic to by process of elimination.

So far I have eliminated all forms of chicken, wheat, corn and rice from his diet. This has all helped but has not made his itching and scratching go away. I stopped feeding him a supplement which my former vet was having me give him, called theracoat (which is for dry, itchy skin), because my new vet says that is just going to cover up the problem, not solve it. So since I have stopped, he has not recovered at all from this last skin infection (he got three weeks ago). He is no longer bleeding from his itchy spots, but he is still scratching and itching like crazy, and still has bald spots as a result. I give him benadryl when his itching gets out of control, but I don’t want to constantly cover up his problems! I have put him on a food that is venison and sweet potato. What other food allergy could he possibly have? Oh, I also bath him regularly with a oatmeal shampoo that is soap free and hypoallergenic.

Thanks!
He doesn’t have ringworm, he’s been checked for that one!

Best answer:

Answer by Kelle
Are you washing his bedding in detergent?

Don’t bathe much at all. 5 times a year is plenty. Over bathing causes skin problems.

Throw a little fish oil on the grain free food.

Don’t keep changing the diet. It takes months to know if a food is working.

Stop vet shopping.

Question by BroCade Marc came 11/1/10: Please help, I cannot find a Dog food that doesn’t effect my lab mix?
He is losing a ton of fur and has nasty red spots all over his tummy. We went through this last summer and got him on expensive pills to clear it up. We cannot afford to take him for another almost 0.00 vet visit this year.

I have him on a lamb and rice dog food that is supposed to be “awesome” for dogs’ with food allergies. NO wheat, corn, beef, chicken ect.

Can someone please recommend a food? Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by jtexas
You will probably end up cooking food for him.

Seriously, it might well be a preservative or some other additive common to most dog foods. You might go through dozens of different kinds of food before you find one he can tolerate.

You can cook it up in big batches and freeze it. Doesn’t have to be fancy or even expensive.

Question by Bruce & Kelly: Toddler son is allergic to milk, soy, and grape products PLEASE HELP!!!!!?
Son went to a endocrine diabetic specialist because of restricted weight gain. Doctor asked to put him on pediasure twice a day with his normal diet and nutramigen. He was on nutramigen because of milk allergies but, the specialist thought it was perfect timing to introduce it back to him and see how well he does. Very bad results on this behalf therefore, we had to go back to the doctor. They decided to do some allergy tests and the results showed he is allergic to milk and soy products. He is also allergic to grapes, raisins, grave flavoring etc. (as we found that out the hard way in the ER).

My problem is I have to read very closely to labels and almost everything has soy in it. I did get some almond milk, and managed to find some toddler meal stuff that was milk/soy free but does anyone have more examples. I hate going to the grocery store and holding everyone up while I look at every ingredient because i HAVE too.

Also, what can I use as a butter substitute in mashed potatoes. I have the unsweetened almonds milk as a replacement for cooking but any ideas for butter? Bread seems to have soy in every brand of it as well any ideas on this route? Please help I am so lost….I would like to be able to make meals for my entire family of 6 rather than make him eat something completely different. It upsets him when he can’t have what we have because, he does not understand!!!!

Thanks in advance…

Answer by ChemoAngel
I know how you feel. I have 30 pages worth of Food Allergies. Here are a great website to help you out.

http://www.allergyfreeandsugarfreesnacks.com/soy-free-food.html

Just ignore the part about the dairy. The dairy is easier, try using products that contain Almond/Rice Milk, and there are also alot of products that don’t contain soy or dairy at all. You just have to read the back of the packages. I know it’s annoying. I have to stand there and read it myself. It’s hard when your a toddler, It’s just something he has to get used to, otherwise don’t eat what HE can’t eat in front of him.

My friend has a 1-year-old son who has food allergies. He is allergic to wheat, soy, dairy, nuts, sesame. He can have eggs though. I am looking for recipes for him or information, sites, links on food allergies. She would like to make him chicken nuggets, I would assume with rice flour, and some sugar cookies, I would assume with rice flour. Any help and suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. Please don’t give rude answers. Thanks in advance!!!!!

This could be worth adding as a Bookmark or send to your friend. It may be worth registering for far more.
I didn’t look to see if it costs to register, but there are numerous free recipes.

Good luck
