Question by Courtney: Am I having an allergic reaction?
I usually stick with basic non-processed foods like fruits and salad and eggs, etc. I never have soy, peanuts, tree nuts, and hardly eat gluten. (I knowwww it’s weird but I just like to eat what I like
) Anyways, I had a quaker oats breakfast cookie and 3 hours later broke out in hives, a fever, nausea and vomiting, and a swollen, tingly tongue. The same exact thing happened a month ago when I had some cheerios. It feels excruciating. Allergic reaction or just a flu bug? If it is allergies, the ingredient as to what it could be is beyond me. I’ve never had reactions like this before! Also, did not take any medication either time.

Hives are specific to allergic reactions, but not fever. Most of the symptoms point to a virus, except the hives. If you have an allergic reaction to something, it is usually within minutes, and not hours. Perhaps it is a combination of things, and you are allergic to something you happened to come in contact with.

Question by Rose: After having a biopsy, found an allergy to gluten and milk, tested negative to Celiac however. What do I do?
After having much trouble with my health for about 20 years, finally found that the acid reflux was a huge problem. My Dr. did a scope and found my esophogus is completely scarred. He did a biopsy and found milk and gluten allergy. The test for Celiac came back negative. Now what do I do. How careful do I really need to be if it is not celiac disease?

An important thing to know about the test for celiac is that it many times shows even if you are celiac the test can show up as negative. In most cases you would have to have eaten a lot of gluten for weeks before the test for it to actually show an accurate positive result. If you are showing allergy’s to milk and wheat then stay away from it. even trace amounts can cause you severe discomfort. Gluten is everywhere you will need to watch out for even the most basic things like the glue on an envelope, lip balm etc. Do as much research as you can it seems overwhelming at first like there is nothing you can eat or touch. But it is not as bad as it seems. I know I have the same allergy’s

Question by simon: Why do so many foods contain milk despite more people having allergies to dairy products?
There is a general increase of people with allergies to milk and dairy products, yet so many unlikely foods contain milk. For example some potato chips or crisps contain milk, pasta sauce, curry sauce some times its in pitta bread, soup frozen fries etc. Many of these food just don’t need to contain milk if you made them at home you would not add milk.
What is unfair is that people who can’t tolerate dairy products are being forced out of the supermarket because its in their favorite foods.
In some individuals dairy products can cause typical allergic reaction, visual migraine which can be very dangerous if you have to drive or operate machinery, common migraine which results in days lost at work or school. Dairy can cause Irritable bowel syndrome, acne, and cows milk has been linked with increased chance of getting some cancers.
So it is unfair if customers are loosing their freedom of choice of food because they are almost being forced to consume a product they don’t want to consume.
The question is why are food manufacturers adding milk when its not necessary and more health conscious people are trying to avoid milk?
1) I know dairy intolerant people are a minority and just like smoking not all smokers will ger lung cancer or heart disease but that does not mean smoking is ok.
What I am saying is people deserve a choice.
2) If someone who is allergic to milk protein eats something which contains milk protein and suffers a reaction when driving causing injury or fatality then its partly the fault of the manufacturer for not puting a big enough warning on the food.
3) I once bought some

3) I once bought some Thai curry (made in Germany) and had to throw it away when I found it contained cream cheese! Dairy products are very rare in South East Asia so why on earth does Thai curry have to contain something thats not even found in Thailand?
4) Its NOT just LACTOSE intolerance, more often its the milk proteins like casein that cause problems and allergy.
At the end of the day its wrong that milk is used in foods which do not need milk.
