Question by flourpower: Could my little girl have a milk allergy?
My daughter is 5 months old now. She is bottle fed, and we have had her on just regular dairy based formula. Since she was about a month old she has always spit up quit a bit after every bottle. We talked to her ped. about it and she suggested that “we feed her too much at one time” so we cut back and it didn’t change anything. When I asked the ped. again she said the same thing. (Ugh.) So I started to think perhaps it was reflux. I switched her over to Enfamil AR, which has rice starch in it so it is thicker, supposed to help with spitting up. It seemed to help for maybe a day or two but the spitting up seems to be back to normal now. I am wondering if she might have a milk protein intollerance? She recently has been having lots of small diarrhea like bowel movements, usually when she is eating, her stool is mucusy, she seems to be in pain when she is eating (arching her back, kicking out her legs, crying, pulling bottle out of her mouth), and just today I noticed a small rash on her arm. I am wondering if these sound like a milk protein allergy to anybody, or if anybody has expirienced similar symptoms? I know I should cal her ped. and ask her but everytime I bring up a concern she just says the same thing, that I am feeding her too much too often or that I don’t burp her enough, etc. Any suggestions/ideas/input is very helpful! Thank you!!

Answer by AnniesMama My girl has a milk allergy and didn’t have any spitting up or rashes but was absolutely miserable, screaming all day and she did pull away, arch her back and have bloody/mucousy stools. The pulling/arching could have been anything related to discomfort, but the bloody diapers sealed the deal that it was an allergy. We switched her to Alimentum and she was a new baby in a few days.

Answer by medcenman a good BBQ would be good. be careful with marination of the meat or chicken. maybe you should take her to jumba juice and get some fruit juice for her
here is an idea, why don’t you ask her what can she eat?

Hi, I’m breastfeeding our 3.5-month-old girl & I feed her about every 2.5 hours. At night, I feed her upon waking. But, after about the 4a or 5a or 6a feeding (depending on when the last feeding was), she twists and turns and pulls up her legs. I know it’s stomach cramps. And they seem to last until about 8a or 9a or 10a, and then she’s fine for the rest of the day. And yes, they do seem to abate when I feed her, but they certainly disrupt her sleep. To clarify, she is NOT screaming or crying when she has these cramps (she doesn’t have colic), just grunting and groaning. I can usually let her lay there & work it out for awhile, but she will work up to A scream, then I pick her up & try to burp & feed her. After that, if I lay her down, the cramps start up again. I have eliminated much from my diet, but not cow’s milk yet, should I try Soy milk? Or, could it be that I just have to be sure she burps when I feed her at night. … I’m a new mom. … Anyone else experience this?
