Question by stellarredgirl: Can I switch my 6 mo. old baby from soy formula back to milk based.?
He was never diag. w/ a milk allergy, just had digestive issues as a newborn and tolerated soy well. Has been on soy since 1 month old and is now 6 months old. I would like to switch back to similac advance instead of isomil. I have read some controversy on soy.

well my daughter was on soy and she was never really got Dag with milk allergy’s her grandmother is a nurse and she thought just to try it and my daughter was fine on it. we did not Switch her back at all to regular formula but when she turned a year old we tried whole milk and she did fine on it. but if you really want to put him back on the slimilac stuff i would do it really slowly like an 2oz of soy stuff and an oz of the silmiac stuff until its all the way to just the slimilac stuff. good luck. i would talk to you dr about it too.

Question by Mrs. Giggles: if my daughter has a peanut allergy should she be on soy formula?
my 8 month old daughter has severe eczema. Doctor had us switch to a soy formula before she was tested for allergies. The test came back as her having a mild allergy to peanuts and eggs. Isn’t soy and peanuts in the same family? Should we swtich her back to a milk formula since the test didn’t come up as being allerigic to milk. I didn’t see any improvments with the eczema after switching from a milk base to soy and its been a few months.
they did a blood test. Im guess they switched the formula to soy because they thought the eczema was being caused by the milk. Hundreds of dollars later on specail lotions and things like that the eczema is still there and i’ve seen no improvment with switching to the soy from the milk.

Yes I would switch her back. Soy formula is not optimal, so if it’s not necessary, I wouldn’t use it. Consider a formula with broken-down proteins like Nestle Good Start.

I’m confused. Did you want to feed your baby powdered formula or are you talking about something for yourself?

Powdered formula won’t hurt your baby but breast milk is best.

Question by Mackenzie B: Switching to formula and feeling guilty?
My 8 month old son cried all day and was SO unhappy. He had bad ezcema. When he was 5 months old, we found out he had bad food allergies. He is allergic to all milk products, wheat, eggs, tree nuts, and peanuts. Since then, I’ve religiously kept these things out of my diet while breastfeeding him.
However, I’ve lost 15 pounds, am thin as a rail, and my milk supply has decreased drastically. It’s because I just can’t eat right. I know I’m supposed to nurse him as long as possible, but I’m at the point where I just can’t do this anymore.
The allergy doctor says he can go on Nutramagen formula until he’s 2 at which time hopefully he will have outgrown these allergies. I’ve decided I’m going to switch him to formula, but feel SO guilty..but my health is drastically suffering. Plus I’m always cranky around my son because I’m hungry all the time and craving milk products and breads. I’m sick of eating beans, meat, veggies and fruit and nothing else. Am I a bad mother for switching him?
