my husband wants me to start mixing milk with his formula and I have always heard that if you give a child milk before they are a year old it can cause them to have worse allergies.. he’s almost eight months, and a friend of ours did this with their child at five months but im just not sure about it.

Answer by rose_everafter
WAIT!! I tried it with my youngest son and he would have seriously bad diarrea because their little tummies cannot digest it yet.

Question by stressed: My son is 11 mos old on elecare formula? what is the next formula to try with less milk or soy?
IF he even has an allergy it’s an intestinal one as he tested negative to milk and soy by patch and blood work. The only way we will know is by oral challenge. We want to take him to something with less milk or less proteins so it’t not a hard adjustement on his system.

Best answer:

Answer by Sophie
If he is severely allergic try a fully hydrolyzed formula such as Nutragimen AA. Some babies are able to stomach some milk proteins (my daughter is also allergic) and you can try him on goats milk..but if you see a reaction starting stop usage straight away and give piriton. I personally wouls stick to the fully hydrolyzed formula until you know for sure what it is hesallergic too exactly.

Are there any similar brands? The dog food can’t have ethoxyquin in it. Which is a toxin and can cause liver problems and cancer.

So any foods without: Ethoxyquin, chicken, wheat, or corn. Does anyone know any?

Best answer:

Answer by anne b
Buy a bigger bag. The larger the bag, the cheaper the price per pound.

6# .83 per #
15# .93 per #
30# .57 per # great value for a high quality food

Question by Shan: If a baby has a possible milk allergy, can you still feed them formula w milk contents to supple breast milk?
My baby has a sensitive stomach and we are in the process of trying to see what works best for her. I put her on soy formula to supplement breast milk and it seems to have constipated her. I have heard that soy is not good for them and that the milk content in formulas is different that what they get from breast milk. Not even for sure she has milk allergy just trying to eliminate that if she is or is not. Now I cant give her soy formula. She seems ok on regular formula but I thought she might have a reaction and it is hard to know if it is breast milk or the formula causing symptoms. She is going to see a ped next week but just thought someone might have some advise.

Best answer:

Answer by Mommyof2boys
If you drink milk, then there is also milk in your breast milk, so most likely not an allergy. The baby might just have acid reflux if she has a sensitive stomach. I would find out for sure what is wrong from the doctor before switching everything.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by mandys924: A milk allergy? Maybe the formula didn’t agree with my baby?
My baby will be 4 mo this wk, I’ve been breastfeeding him w/ an altered diet away from dairy and some other things. I would give him a bottle of Nutramigen if i had my husband watch him. He always seemed to have a digestive issue with drawing his legs up and a little gas even with my diet. But he is a lot better since this started when he was 3 wks. I asked a question in the past about if I should bottle feed, but everyone said it would only complicate things. So, I kept pressing on. 2 days ago I decided to ween him and put him on Nutramigen. Within 24 hours he had explosive diarrhea, a raw red ring around his butt, and i think a tint of blood in the stool, but i don’t know if that is from his butt. Well I am back to breastfeeding and prob will keep doing it for as long as possible. What does this sound like to anyone with a similar problem? I had him on Nutra. before for 24 hrs and it never did this. Should i take him to an allergist? nutra is for milk protein allergy babies?

Best answer:

Answer by meppa30
If you are only giving your son breast milk or formula then it can only be one or the other. Maybe exclusively breastfeeding is the way to go if the formula has this effect on him. A trip to a paediatrician or Doctor might be in order then if they think an allergist is necessary to go them. Some kids just never have a formula that agrees with them.

Question by beckie: weaning off formula with a milk protien allergy?
my daughter will be a year old in 2 weeks (wow). she has been on Similac Alimentum since she was 2 months old due to a milk protien allergy. I’m not sure what to do now that she is almost ready to switch to cow’s milk. She hasn’t had a drop of dairy and I am so afraid to test her. I have heard to mix a small amount of real yogart into her soy yogart or give her a little cheese to see if she has out grown the allergy but I am scared. I had a bad milk allergy until I was an adolesent and I know the stomach pain dairy can cause. what is a good supliment for cow’s milk?

Best answer:

Answer by Gracinda
Unless I’m mistaken, the Alimentum still has milk protein in it; its just broken down partially. So technically she’s still been getting milk proteins.
Maybe she’ll tolerate milk products better than you fear!

Question by sgalin40: Can I use whole milk instead of water to make my babies formula?
She will be 1 year old in March. She was a preemie (36 weeks) and has not been gaining weight well recently due to illness the last few months. I am looking for ways to get as many calories into her as possible. She is not a big eater and will only take about 15 ounces of formula a day plus solids. Any suggestions for weight gain would be great. Also she has food allergies and is allergic to eggs, oats and soy products.

Best answer:

When I swtiched my son from formula to vitamin D milk he broke out in a rash and was super crabby. (he didn’t have any wheezing or swelling) But I still went ahead and switch him to soy milk. I’m just wondering how he could have an allergy to milk when he’s been drinking regular Enfamil formula for his whole life. (It has milk in it)
Or should I be looking for something else that could be giving him the rash? Although, I can’t think of anything else that he hasn’t had before that he’s had recently

I know that you are not supposed to give whole milk until the baby is a year old, but I was wandering if any of you started earlier than a year? If you started at around 11 months, what would be the harm as long as the baby has no allergies?

Best answer:

Answer by Mae rose Roque
At 11 months you can do half whole milk half formula so that they get used to the whole milk
