Question by cc: Has anyone else developed major allergies who has a parent with Lupus?
My Mother had Lupus and Now all of her kids have Major allergies. Has anyone else had this happen?
I am wondering if it is related because I am allergic to MSG which means it neurologically effects me. And Lupus is a neurodegenerative disease so I find this concerning. My sisters are all allergic to Protein such as Soy, Milk, etc. What are other peoples experience with having a parent with Lupus?

Lupus is an autoimmune disease not a necessarily a neurodegenerative disease. Multiple sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease. People with lupus can have neuropathy, which is nerve pain. Lupus can affect any part of the body. For me it was heart, lungs, bone marrow, blood and kidneys but NOT nerves.

I have lupus and none of my kids have allergies. They are not necessarily linked, although both have to do with an immune system reaction.

Question by russel walker: Why do people have a hard time accepting that someone else can be allergic to marijuana?
For a long time and after many many occasions I knew I was allergic to marijuana. I’m also allergic to shellfish. People have no problem accepting it when I say I can’t eat that, I wish I could, but dam I’m allergic. However when it comes to pot, no one believes me. I mean no one. So much so they will smoke in front of me or even in the same car. I have a constant skin allergy now that I am very seldom relieved from because I am very often coming into contact with an idiot pot head, usually a friend or college, that just can’t wait to light up.

So just now I googled it, and found that I’m not the only one with this dilemma, not just of the allergy but of being surrounded by idiots. What is it about pot that makes allot of people so unable to accept that some people just can’t smoke it(which includes nosies)?
I’m glad I asked this and got an intelligent answer from a user(i’m assuming from the name). It was a load off my chest to be honest :)

You’re absolutely right. People can definitely be allergic to marijuana, just the same way they can be allergic to alcohol or caffeine. A friend of mine in college smoked for the first time and had to be hospitalized when his throat closed up. However, as of yet, no one has died from a marijuana allergy.

I can’t drink alcohol, and people sometimes have a hard time accepting it – especially at parties. Just take the time to explain that your body doesn’t react the same way theirs do and to try to avoid using it around you. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do when you’re in an environment where everyone is smoking.

Question by Breezy: Does anyone else have an allergy that causes abdominal swelling and pain?
My stomach was swelling up and hurting all the time, not to mention causing some digestive problems, so I went to an allergist and found out I’m allergic to everything with wheat and soy! It’s so weird. Soon as I eat something with either my stomach immediately hurts and starts to swell. I just wonder if anyone else has this?

Wheat allergies aren’t unusual and can be life-threatening for some people. Do a web search on celiac disease.

Question by Rachek: Does anyone else have a severe peanut allergy and know how to take good care of it.?
I have a very severe allergy to peanuts, if I eat one, my throat will close up if I do not use my epi-pen. Where this has never happened, I have had reactions to things that ‘may contain peanuts’ and are ‘made in a factory that processes peanuts’. Those reactions are not as bad, but my face swells up, my lips get all red and itchy, and usually it takes a couple days to recover. I made a mistake, because, while I was staying abroad, I tried a couple things that ‘may contain’ that I couldn’t have in the states, and I was fine, so it depends on the country, but now I have moved on to another country, and have been a bit cavalier and had something I shouldn’t have and are reaping the consequences: runny nose, itchy lips, swollen face.
Is there anything I can do, other than stop eating the stuff I’m not supposed to.

Question by Road Runner For Life <3: Does anyone else suffer from chronic hives? If so, how do you deal with it?
I have had chronic hives for 7 years and I get hives pretty much everyday. I have been on every antihistamine possible and I am now taking a light dose of prednisone because I had a bad flare up of hives last week (ended up in the ER twice). I have seen many doctors who all say that I will outgrow this, but 7 years later I am still living with chronic hives. I have had thyroid and immune system tests that have come back ok and I have been tested for many other food allergies. Does anyone else suffere from this? Does anyone know of any foods that I can be tested for that are not as obvious (I have been tested for wheat, oat, corn, milk, chocolate, tree nuts)? Thanks!
