Question by PuppyLove: If a goat eats barley, can it affect a person with barley allergies?
I have an allergy to barley. If I buy milk from goats who are fed a barley diet, could I have a reaction? I’ve heard of people being allergic to soy and not being able to eat milk from soy fed animals. Is this true and would it be the same for a grain allergy like barley?

Only the very most sensitive and highly allergic people would react to this. My son has corn and soy allergies and has never reacted to corn fed beef. But from what I understand people who are hyper sensitive can react. So you should be fine, but you won’t know til you try it.

Question by WorriedMOM: My 14 month old daughter has wheat, egg, milk, soy, nuts allergies. She eats only her veggies and fruits with?
I am wondering of alternatives to start her on table foods. I have found rice pasta as a substitute for regular pasta. Was wondering if anyone is in the same situation and has ideas for a substitue bread or eggs, or other things that I can try.

Wow! Your daughter wasn’t even supose to have those things except for milk & egg yolks at this age. If you feed children allergy sensitive foods too early, it can cause them to get allergies to foods. That’s why you should always follow the food guidlines for babies/toddlers.

Avoiding High Allergy Foods
Infants have the highest risk of developing food allergies to milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat. Delaying the introduction of these food groups to infants, especially for infants with a family history of food allergies, can help prevent or delay the development of food allergies. Food allergies may very well still appear when the infant is introduced to the food group at a later date but being older when the first allergic reaction occurs can help prevent a more serious reaction.

Eggs, soy, wheat, tomatoes, strawberries – shouldn’t be given to kids until at least 18 mos
Honey, peanut butter, nuts, sea food, shell fish – shouldn’t be given to kids until at least 2 yrs

I think that my 2 month old baby might have an allergy – since he is only breastfed i have to determine what i’m eating may be causing some of his allergy type symptoms – therefore i would like to know if i consume dairy and then nurse – is that transferred to the baby right away or does my body process it prior to it entering the breast milk supply and if so how long is the turn around.
