Question by K H: When I drink milk I get diarrhea…but NO other dairy causes it?
No cheese, icecream, yogurt…just milk. Backstory: when I was a kid I drank milk all the time. Then out of the blue it began making me throw up, so I stopped obviously. I recently decided to try milk again thinking it was a childhood phase or something. So started drinking milk again, and the diarrhea started again right after I’d drink it. I’m not lactose intolerant, because again, I have always eaten tons of dairy, and milk is the ONLY thing that causes it. So what’s the deal…is this ‘limited lactose intolerance’ or something. I’ve also heard of a ‘milk allergy’, but do allergies cause diarrhea?

Answer by punkinbutt’smama Ok, now I’m not a doctor, but I’ve done a lot of research on milk because I suffer from Crohn’s Disease and milk seems to irritate me also, and just like you said -only milk, not the other milk products. There are a few possibilities that I have come up with. The 1st is bacteria. There has been some research going on now on Johnes and cows, which is a tuberculosis bacteria. They find that it can be found in the milk, and it is also very hard to kill. You’d have to heat it up so high that it would basically make it turn to cottage cheese in order to kill it. I think that foods like cottage cheese don’t contain this bacteria or possibly others as well because of the processes that they go through. Milk however can’t be heated high enough to kill everything without changing it’s liquidy property. Another possibility is an allergen in the milk. For instance, my daughter is allergic to soy. Whenever she drinks milk she has an allergic reaction, however, she is not allergic to milk (we’ve had her tested multiple times). She can also eat other milk products without having a reaction. We’ve determined that because cows are fed a diet that consists of a large amount of soy protein, that it is that in the milk causing the reaction. But, whatever process the yogurts, cheeses, ect go through must somehow breakdown or remove the protein, making her able to tolerate those products. These are just my observations and ideas based on a lot of research and critical thinking. Maybe it might me something for you to ponder as well.

Question by Orviston, PA: Am I Lactose intolerant??Milk Allergy?? Can’t drink pasteurized milk but can drink…?
I can not drink regular pasteurized milk (No matter what kind-whole,1%,2%,skim,non-fat). I can however drink Half & Half, whipping cream & canned evaporated milk. I actually like drinking these they taste good to me and they don’t turn my stomach or make me sick.
I have weak stomach in the morning. But no matter what time of day I drink pasteurized regular milk, the milk is coming up. Occasionally in the evening I can have a bowl of cereal with just enough regular milk to barely wet the cereal. With out getting sick. I also can eat all cheeses too with out getting sick.
Is this a milk allergy?Lactose problem or what?
I haven’t tried the lactose free milk because I didn’t want to spend that much money to find I can’t drink it.
It really isn’t that I don’t like it. I do like the chocolate milk and do drink the regular as well. Just in a short period of drinking it comes back up. I never had aproblem with milk as a teenager. I’d drink a half gallon at one time.
I drink the other milk products so I can get some calcium in my diet. Yes, I am paying .00 for half gallon of Half & Half where I live.

Answer by LaVonia idk if there’s a such thing as being “half lactose intolerant” but I kinda have the same problem. I can eat anything dairy but I can’t eat anymore than 2 bowls of cereal because the milk will make my stomach hurt. We drink drink whole milk. The kind with the red top.

Question by The dancing cat: Toddler has milk allergy, what should he drink?
My 16 month old baby was just diagnosed with milk and egg whites allergy, they told me the blood test results over the phone. Also they told me to schedule appointment with an allergist. So I did, next appointment is available at the end of August. Till then I have no idea what to feed him with? Soy milk seem sdoesnt have required amounts of fat as whole milk, lactaid milk still contains milk protein he is allergic to. He was on Similac milk based formula since birth. It is weird he just got diagnosed at 16 months after I changed pediatricians several times trying to figure out why gets so bad eczema. I was kept being told it was normal. Now I see it was because I fed milk formula to him and since 1 year he drinks several cups of whole milk per day that he is in fact, allergic to. This morning I went and bought some soy Similac toddler formula, thos things are so expensive! Isnt there something cheaper out there? I cannot find a soy toddler formula in store brands, only Similac and Enfamil which is very expensive. Is there a type of soymilk that is good for toddlers? What should I do? 2 months till I can talk to specialist about this. Pediatrician says do whatever you always did till the specialist says otherwise. But seems idiotic to me to give him milk & cheese if he is allergic to it, right???
Best answer:
Answer by ceinglehart It does, but if it’s only eczema and not making him ill, it might be best. See how he reacts to the Soy Similac and if it’s alright, I guess you just have to suck up the price. And you are right about Lactaid milk, for an allergy it will still cause an issue.
