Question by CARDIOLOGY DUDE: Wheat-Free diet?
Help me, please;

I need to go on a wheat free diet for one week to see if I’m allergic to wheat or not. And for those who bring this up: I did consider allergy testing, but I am too busy right now so I’m just trying this first.

Anyways, can I get some help with finding foods that are wheat free? Right now, I go to school and this week I’m going to science camp for 2 days, so I need to be able to identify foods with wheat so I don’t eat them. My mother has noticed that anytime I eat foods with wheat in them, I get horrible reflux and I get VERY VERY cranky. She said I should consider researching.

Thanks in advance for your help! :-)

It might be worth while before hand to go to the doctors and get a blood test done to see if you don’t have coeliac disease. However, to answer your question a lot of the big supermarkets do free from ranges so you can still eat pasta and breads. You can also still eat potatoes, rice which will help you maintain your weight . The obvious thing you could also do increase you calories intake. The main thing is if you want to maintain your weight don’t eliminate all carbs you have to substitute with the free from ranges or other wheat free carbs. If you want to go and have a blood test then you have to keep on eating wheat. Hopes this helps .

Question by carolpfeiffershihtzu: I have a 1 yr old Shih Tzu that has been diagnosed with kidney disease and skin allergies. What diet?
Maizie is a foster dog with New Beginnings ShihTzu Rescue and the three applicants that were lining up for her all dropped her when her diagnoses came down. I need to know what diet to pass on to anyone interested in adopting this little girl.

My vet recommended a kibble loaded with corn. Because of the severe skin allergy she cannot tolerate the corn or wheat in diets I have been offered. She will not eat the canned KD either. The info about the proper diet for the kidney disease is confusing. Some people say protein doesn’t matter and others say it does. Low potassium is important, but not listed on the food containers, or the lists I am finding on the net. Can anyone help clarify all of this information for me?

CURE KIDNEY DISEASE

Home Remedies to Help or Cure Kidney Failure or Disease

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
12/28/2006: Carla from NSW Australia writes, “Apple Cider Vinger cleaned my Kidney. This was discovered after taking a full blood test.”

Ted replies: “Dear Satish: Often times a kidney failure is due to excess acidity in urine as the acidity digests the kidney causing kidney failure much like the stomach acid digesting your kidneys. My own experience with kidney failure is often when urinary pH is between 5.0 to 5.5 but often times it can be as low as 4.5.

Therefore, taking 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 glass of water taken about twice a day should notice some relief in the kidney problems.

It takes two weeks to notice some improvement. In case of my own aunt who had kidney failure pending a surgical removal it took her 3 days of taking about this same amount or a bit more like 1 teaspoon of baking soda twice a day plus 1/2 glass of water for 3 days before the doctors decided her kidney was completely normal.

Kidney failure can have all kinds of causes, but the most common problem I do see is excess acidity of the urine.

If you are a perfectionist, a urinary pH precisely at 7 or as high as 7.34 is a pH that is unlikely to be acid to begin with, so it at least will give a chance for the kidney to recover.

An exception is that in case the kidney failure is of a diabetes complication, then it would appear treatment of avoiding strict no sugar diets to be very important to reduce that first along with the usual baking soda needed to raise urinary pH to at least 7.0, being neutral is the best figure I can imagine where there is practically speaking no acid that can destroy the kidneys.

There are other causes of kidney failure, but the information you supply me is lacking in details. I am therefor giving you a general ones that had worked for me the best. Ted”

#1: Apple Cider Vinegar in a Spray Bottle

5/4/2006: Margaret from Northern Ireland writes us, “My Female Kerry Blue has been constantly licking and biting her feet particularly in between her paws for over a year now. Her pads were red raw and sometimes she found it difficult to walk she had so much pain, I had been to the Vets 4 or 5 times with her, injections, antibiotics, creams, shampoos, allergy tests etc, and she still continued to eat them. I discovered this website for Apple Cider Vinegar and went out straight away to get some , I put some into a spray bottle and sprayed her feet every morning and evening and like a miracle she has stopped completely, ( within 2 days!!). Her little paws are completely dry now and she is so happy – a completely different dog. I cannot recommend this product enough – it has done wonders for my dog. Margaret”

FLAX SEED OIL
3/10/2007: Tanya from Newport, NY writes: “My dog gets severe itching 2x per year due to allergies. I usually take her to the vet to refill her prenizone?. I hate the way it affects her. Constant urinating, weird eyes, always real hungry & thirsty. I was sick of seeing her like that. I search the internet for a natural remedy. FLAXSEED OIL!!! It is a natural anti inflammatory. I gave it a shot. 1 tbls 2-3x per day in 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. Her allergy was gone in 2 days, (opposed to 1 week with the meds) & she had more energy. Please search the internet for more information on this all natural oil. You wont believe it. Both for you and your pets. PS I’m trying the apple cider vinegar diet I found on this site, I will keep you posted on my progress. Thank You for this wonderful website.”

Question by slo1970: Allergy Exclusion Diet?
My daughter is being put on an exclusion diet to check for reactions to different foods.
For two weeks she can not eat the following:
Pork
Cantaloupe
Cashews
Cottonseed
Rye
Tuna
Salmon
Black Pepper
Sesame Seeds
Soybeans
Peanuts
Lettuce
White Potatoes
I’m having a hard time coming up with foods for her to eat for lunch (at school) and dinner since cottonseed, soy, peanuts and wheat seem to be in everything. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.
Just wanted to clear up that she was actually tested for allergies. She showed a reaction of 3mm or higher to the foods on her exclusion diet. She was also allergic to many other foods but they were 2mm reactions or less so he didn’t add those to the list. I believe tomatoes was on the lesser reaction list. She wasn’t tested for green peppers but it might make since that she had a stomach ache when I made stuffed peppers.
Poor thing was poked 96 times with needles that day.

So you are really looking for some beef and chicken stir fries with rice as the starch? For lunch hmm? You could try some turkey lunch meat rolled around cream cheese. Sushi served without the soy sauce. Chicken and rice soup in a thermos. They do make “rice” breads for wheat intolerant people they are often available in the organic aisle. I would really recommend going to a store that specializes in organic foods, WholeFoods or Trader Joe’s have a variety of food stuffs that are missing common allergy inducing ingredients. Your local Kosher deli or Kosher department at the grocery store will also have foods with no pork and very few “additives”. What about a wrap made out of a corn tortilla chicken, cream cheese and tomatoes? A lot of health food markets also have diets printed out to help people with allergies. I would go to all of these places and see what advice and products they have to offer.
