I am very sorry to hear that. I too have that and it is very frustrating. You would be surprised at the things that have soy- from chewing gum to candy apples. READ every label- pretty much forget any bread. no fast food-check online for ingredients for restaurants.
foodallergy.org
Good luck–honestly knowing it is better than not knowing it. soy is in everything. try to get whole foods-like fresh vegetables and fruits. foods the way God made them. (washing everything) I also drink whey protein since I am so limited to what I can eat- at least I can get nutrition that way- watchout for vitamins too-soy is in them .
make sure it is a true allergy and not a sensitivity. (from an allergist) a sensitivity is different( a little better) if she isn’t actually allergic you can use beano before she eats-NOT if she’s allergic though. Also most cereal, and candy and prepared foods.
Get a good magnifying glass -you will be reading a lot of very small print. Always check the bottom of the list for allergens- if it says soy you don’t need to read any further. If it doesn’t say soy -YOU STILL need to read it. Not always included under allergens.
God Bless You both!

Question by Jul: I have been diagnosed with Graves disease. Should I just assume I have a wheat allergy and stop eating it?
Since being diagnosed with Graves Disease I have been doing a lot of internet research regarding my diagnosis. It seems those who have an autoimmune disease like Graves disease are often allergic to wheat or gluten products. I have stopped eating products containing gluten but it’s a real pain and I really miss them. I am 50 years old and prior to this never seemed to have any problem with gluten or wheat that I was aware of. Anyone informative comments on this would be appreciated.
I have asked my doctor and he said there is no problem with it and the internet is full of bull in regards to this. However, almost every web site regarding Graves disease that I have visited states that wheat allergy is a very common culprit in Graves disease. I find that often doctors do not put very much emphasis on diet in relationship to health, and medical schools generally do not train them in this regard either. I thought that perhaps someone who has Graves disease might find this question and answer it from their own experience.

I would think you should address this question to your physician. S/He should be able to determine if you do have an allergy to wheat or gluten. If you don’t have the allergy, then eat away!
I don’t think the two things are necessarily related in all cases. See your doc.

My mom just fed me that stuff and I can eat all of that stuff now…and Im fine You let your body build that tolerance. And please whats more important lots of nutrition from milk? or your kid farting a lo? Its pathetic how soft we are nowadays. You know damn well lkike 400 or 500 years ago these kids survived eating this stuff that were supposively allergic. Survival of the fitttest!!!! darwinism

Question by mememe: 4 year old son diagnosed with wheat allergy?
My 4 year old sons pediatrician had my son take a routine series of allergy tests. The tests taken from blood samples. The wheat allergy test came back positive.

My question is, do we absolutely have to take wheat out of his diet? He’s been eating wheat his whole life. His pediatrician said that while he may not have a severe reaction or go into respiratory shock, the wheat could cause other things like sinus congestion and perhaps ear ache’s or fluid behind his ears (which he currently has).

Another question I have is whether or not there are other tests and if the test he’s taken is really accurate. We have cut wheat out of his diet until we get more information. As I mentioned above, he’s eaten wheat his whole life and never showed any overt problems.

Thanks in advance.

Allergies manifest in different ways. The short and simple version is – keep wheat out of his diet, especially when he is sick. Blood tests are essentially the most accurate.

Sensitivity can result in inflammation. Inflammation can cause things like restricting the drainage of the inner ear through the eustacian tubes. This inflammation can also lead to more infections, increased risks for asthma, or futher allergies. There are chemicals that the immune system uses to communicate their level of agitation, which changes normal immune function.

I’ll use an analogy here – when allergens are low, then its like a quite room with a few people in it. It is easier for the immune system “bouncer” keep the peace. When a severe infection sets in, some guy runs into the room and screams “fire” or “fight” and action is quick and focused. Having a lot of trigger allergens around is like a loud, crowded night club and it is tough for your immune system (the bouncer) to quickly determine what the problem is and neutralize it. As a result, mistakes can be made. It may create more problems and damage trying to protect your son than what it would normally do. This includes developing other allergies (letting in the rif-raf accidentally), having more infections/colds (more fights get bigger than they should), or your son putting more energy than he should into the immune system at a time when his other cells should be growing.
