Question by b??tany.: Dealing with food allergies at wedding?
My fiance and I are getting married in December, and we’re trying to make all the final menu decisions (a family friend is doing the catering, so we haven’t been on too strict a deadline). There is, however, one guest, my FH’s sister in law, who is allergic to nearly everything. Peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, whey and who knows what else.

We have tried to contact her on several occasions to ask her what all she is allowed to eat, but she refuses to call us back, and while we haven’t been on a strict deadline with the caterer, we want to have this done by tomorrow.

What can we do? I don’t want to limit my entire menu to things that only she can eat. Do we label everything? Divide all the food up?

Help.
I wasn’t going to disregard everyone else, just asking how I should handle it when it actually comes up. Should I ask her if she has it taken care of herself? We have a few dishes that she could probably eat… But for the rest of the stuff, like the “snack” table, I didn’t know how to handle it, since in some situations, things could get mixed up, touch each other and what not…

most people with food allergies are prepared for occasions as these. i have a brother and a cousin with allergies and they eat before they go out and they understand they can’t dictate a special event such as this! it was so very thoughtfull for you guys to try and contact her. but if she isn’t replying then go for what you want (im not saying have nuts and shellfish everywhere:p lol) but you could have salad or something out that won’t be contaminated by touch (most allergies are like that).
you could label things that are okay for her. or even tell her personally what is in everything.

i hope this helps! and i hope Your wedding is amazing!

My daughter developed pnuemonia after I introduced her to cow’s milk a few weeks back. My pediatrician wasn’t sure if it was triggered by the milk or not, or if it was a coincidence that they occured at the same time. I was instructed to give her formula until she was 100% better. I have done this. She is back to normal now. No wheezing or coughing. A few days ago I began to try to introduce the milk again. I started with 1/4 of the bottle being milk and the rest formula. She did fine. Now I’ve bumped it to 1/2 of the bottle milk. After about 1 hour of feeding her she woke up coughing and having the mucusy wheezing again! The doc said if it happened again we could try lactose free and if that doesn’t work maybe soy milk. Has anyone else ever experienced this? What type of “milk” did you end up giving your child? I also wondered if goats milk or rice milk would be another option. Also, her formula is a cow’s milk based, so why doesn’t that cause the same reaction?
