Question by Leah’s Mommy: I accidentally gave my daughter the wrong kind of cereal a few weeks ago?
Since she was only about 4.5 months old at the time, would the fact that I accidentally gave her multigrain cereal (containing wheat) hurt her? I didn’t realize I did it but I don’t think she even swallowed much of it, until I saw that the multigrain package was opened as opposed to the rice cereal. Now I’m freaked out. I might be being irrational but did I just give her a gluten allergy or could that give her celiac disease?
Best answer:
Answer by JustMe She will be fine. Withholding wheat until the 1st birthday is only necessary for infants with a family history of celiac disease. Just start with the rice from now on.

Question by <3 Elayna’s Mommy <3: Does it sound like my daughter has a milk allergy?
My little one is 6 weeks old and we are transitioning her to formula from breast milk. When she was born they had to supplement my colostrum because she was not getting enough and they used Similac Advance. She did ok on that then other than the excessive spitting up. Once my milk came in she breast fed other than when my mom would let me sleep and she fed her with a bottle. She became very very fussy so we just stopped all together and I started pumping. I noticed when I drank a lot of milk she spit up a lot more of my breast milk than normal. Now we are trying to find a formula she can tolerate without throwing it all up. We have WIC and they started her on Good Start Gentle. That constipated her horribly, she spit up just about all of her bottle every time so we consulted with her dr and he suggested Enfamil AR. That worked for a few days and then she began the excessive spitting up and of course became constipated from the added rice starch. So a couple days ago my doctor told me to try Similac Sensitive for Fussiness and Gas. It’s a milk based formula but lower Lactose I believe and she did well on that for a couple days with no spit up then she started the spitting up again and here I am today wondering what to do. We see her doctor again tomorrow to consult about formula change again. Also, I took her a couple weeks ago because of a rash….she doctor said it was heat rash but she still has it and it’s definitely not baby acne. This is all over her chest and back and some on her face and her ears are extremely dry looking so my first thoughts were a milk allergy. Just wanting some opinions so I know what we may be looking at in the next few days. Does it sound like a milk allergy?? I know spitting up is normal, but what she was doing is not normal. Thanks in advance for your opinions!!!!
Also, for those wondering why I’m stopping breastfeeding, it’s due to her still spitting most of it up and me returning to work next week. I will not be able to pump due to my job and she never seems satisfied on it.

Answer by roadie My son had a lactose intolerance to all formula so we had to put him on soy formula but he was doing alot more than spitting up he was having bad diarrhea. He had formula intolerance. she might have acid reflux due to spitting up. Normally if they have lactose intolerance they will have more problems than spitting up.

Question by Justme: Mothers with kids that have a milk allergy and soy allergy, what tasty things can I still give my daughter?
My daughter is almost 3, we figured out that she has a full blown milk allergy as well as a soy allergy. We have already taken out Milk, yogurt and most cheese. We were kind of testing it ourselves to make sure that was what it is. It was confirmed by the doctor. We just found out that we have to take out EVERYTHING that has milk in it because it is that bad. So my sweet little girl can’t have the things she loves anymore… yogurt, cheese, cheese crackers. And I am noticing that milk is in EVERYTHING. My question is what fun things can she still eat. I feel like I am totally depriving my child. And it is making me really sad.

Answer by J B At 3 years old, she will not know about foods that she cannot have. You just don’t eat these products in front of her or, you find an appropriate substitute. You read the labels, stick to wholesome foods rather than processed foods and you will not have any problems. And, there is not milk in everything. There are breads made that have no milk in them, there are cookies that have no milk in them (homemade ones for sure). She can learn to drink water, juice with her meals. If you give the indication you are depriving her, she will pick up on this. You need to not give her any indication there are foods she CANNOT have but all the foods you provide will be the ones she can have and she will learn to eat only those.
We had a daughter with a severe milk allergy and have been down this road and you just take it in stride. We used only whole foods and she never knew about the “bad” foods until she got into school and by that time, we had taught her to make good food choices so that she wouldn’t be so congested all the time. You teach what is good for them and avoid talking about the things she doesn’t need in her diet.

Question by Angel#3: My daughter has MIlk Protein Allergy!?
My daughter was diagnosed for Milk Protein Allergy at 6 Months old, when I tried to give her youghurt, she broke out of rashes and vomited, almost could not breathe. She was brestfed till she was 1 year old, and never had any problem with my milk(I eat dairy). Now she is 2 and a half year old, drinks ricemilk, growing fine, but it`s starts to get more and more difficult, since she can`t eat what other kids eat and drink at school and b-day parties. We can`t even kiss her after eating dairy, because she breaks out in rashes, and ichy bumps. Her doctor says almost all kids outgrow it by age 5-6. Is anybody know a child who has outrown the milk allergy, or can give me some advice how to cope with it?

Question by Bianca: My daughter has a milk protein allergy. She turned 1 and we tried giving her whole milk?
She has been having loose stools and has developed a rash all over her body. I know it is a reaction from the milk. From what I have read you should not give babies with milk protein allergies soy milk or lactaid…what do you give them????????? I have read things about goats milk and rice milk?
also do they sell goats milk at the regular grocery store…I mean i have never looked for it so I dont know
She is also allergic to Soy. She was on a hypoallergenic formula. Soy formula gave her bloody stools.

Answer by Alice Goats milk, same thing I grew up on since I have a milk protein allergy which I passed to my daughter. It is an acquired taste, but great when you get used to it.
