Question by cadance610: If I am allergic to milk, can I still consume it in the cooked form?
I’ve recently had my allergies tested… I found out I am allregic to milk, corn, potatoes AND tomatoes. It’s going to be so hard to find foods with out milk! Does anyone know if I can eat it in the cooked form? Such as… alfredo sauce, cookies, ice cream.. etc? Thank you!
Thank you so much everyone, it’s going to be tough picking a best answer. Basically, I was wondering If milk was cooked.. if it broke it down to where I could eat it. Obviously I can’t.
I am a vegetarian and already normally do not consume milk. The only times I really do is if it’s baked/cooked in somthing. But not I can’t even do that! Thanks again everyone

Well most people are lactose intolerant without even realizing it. Milk from cows was never meant for human consumption, but we have adapted to it. It really depends on what milk does to you. Is it just gas like most people or is it more serious? I would suggest staying away from anything you’re allergic to. Besides, there are many alternitives to traditional cow’s milk. Try soy milk,almond milk or lactose free milk. If you have a reaction, you’ll know what not to do next time.

i can’t and i might “die” with milk products. find healthy substitutes and don’t rely on your imagination to make you think you need the products of a strange animal species.

Question by Girly-Girl: If you can consume salt, are you not allergic to iodine?
I want to start taking a multivitamin and one of the ingredients is Iodine (potassium iodide) but am concerned because I had an incident a few years back with a mild allergic reaction to having shell fish and some supplements that had iodine (the only reason I think there is some connection is because although I didn’t eat shrimp regularly, it wasn’t the first time I had eaten it).
I understand that there is something in shellfish that can cause an allergy which isn’t necessarily the iodine. I haven’t seen an allergist but I also have concerns about that
)
Any feedback is helpful, but preferably from individuals who know what they are talking about please.

Shellfish are bottom-feeders and have a lot of toxins, and that makes it more allergenic. I have to be careful with iodine specifically, too much irritates my thyroid gland and breaks my skin out (scarring and slow-healing acne). Since I don’t eat shellfish anyway, that is not a problem, but even kelp can break me out and try to avoid additional iodine in iodine-enriched salts and vitamins. Plain salt does not contain iodine.

LaLeche league told me that if a baby is lactose intolerant, then the mother has to avoid dairy products. She will be able to nurse as long as she avoids dairy herself.
