Question by don’tneedtoknow: I don’t think it’s milk, could it be a cheese allergy?
I can drink milk, even have food made with Milk, but when I eat american cheese or string cheese I get symptoms of being lactose intolerant, however I can eat fresh mozzarella or blue cheese. I have no idea where to start as far as figuring out why i get sick, and Lactaid does not help. Suggestions anyone?? Also what are some good home remedies to make my stomach feel better?

You will probably just have to learn which types of cheese bother you and avoid them. Do you have mold allergies? People who are allergic to cheese, but not milk usually have mold allergies.

Question by cmd0622: How come my son can eat yogurt and cheese with no problem but has allergic reaction to a full glass of milk?
The allergic reaction is a eczema like reaction over his trunk, arms and legs. But it’s only when he drinks a cup or more. He’s okay with a bit in his cereal. Any thoughts? (I am overall very familiar with food allergies as he has several. He’s never tested postive for milk though)

Yogurt is milk, but the chemical properties are slightly different because of the reaction with the bacteria that cause yogurt to form.

Maybe he can tolerate it because this chemical reaction has taken place when milk changes to yogurt.

Or maybe he is allergic to some kind of additive in the milk, but not the milk itself.

Just a thought.

Some children can tolerate goat’s milk in small amounts which has less of the large milk proteins contained in cow’s milk. There are several types of goat’s milk cheeses but are harder to find. She may just have to eliminate this from her diet for a while. My daughter had severe food allergies as an infant and as she got older, could tolerate small amounts of milk products with the knowledge that she would have some nose congestion for about 24 hours afterwards.

What do you think? Answer below!
