Question by brandiwine72: My 1 year old can’t drink milk, now what?
When my baby turned 1 we tried milk. He broke out in red welts where the milk had splashed out of the cup and touched his skin, then he started with the cough, and then trouble breathing. At the hospital the whites of his eyes turned completely pink (looked like pink eye). Within an hour he was back to normal (just a little watery eye). The doctor suspects he might have astma (lot’s of weezing). I started watching what he eats, he weezes within hours of eating things with milk in it (cereal bars, crackers, etc). Has anyone ever seen this or went through it, the doctor says he might out grow it. All milk allergy articles I’ve found don’t show these symptoms?
He often sounded conjested with milk based formula so I switched him to soy formula shortly after he started formula. My oth 2 boys both required soy. My oldest still has lactose issues, this isn’t the same. I don’t beleive lactose alone is the issue, Thanks.

Allergies can be experienced differently by each child. It sounds like your child is lactose intollerant. Which means you might have to resort to soy based products for awhile. There is a chance that hell grow out of it, my son used to have allergies to strawberries, but now he can eat them. If you need extra help ask your doctor. Take care!

Green Tea: This common table tea has a natural antihistamine. Drink one or two cups a day and sweeten with honey. You can also use black tea, since it is from the same plant as green tea, but it isn’t as effective.
Honey: Make sure you purchase local honey. Use it to sweeten teas or take a small amount of it plain. Local honey can help you became resistant to certain pollens. The beneficial qualities of honey are lost, however, when it is cooked.
Chamomile Tea: This popular tea is also a natural antihistamine. Drink one or two cups a day and sweeten with honey. Don’t use if you are allergic to ragweed because it can make your symptoms worst.
Ginger: Peel and crush a one inch piece of fresh ginger root. Place in a mug and pour boiling water over. Steep for five to ten minutes. Sweeten with honey, if desired. Ginger is both a natural antihistamine and a mild decongestant.
Garlic: Garlic helps stimulate the immune system, is a decongestant and is used for coughs. Cook with it as much as you can. If you enjoy the taste, add it raw to salads and salad dressings because fresh garlic is more effective
I hope this helped!

Question by NickyV: I can’t get rid of this chronic stuffy nose!?
I have been suffering from a chronic stuffy nose for months. I have completely abused the use of nasal sprays to a point where I needed them to breathe through my nose. Lately the nasal sprays don’t work. I have been using a neil med (neti-pot) for a while now as it’s safe and gets rid of lots of impurities. It works for all of 2 minutes and I’m right back to being completely stuffed up. I can’t breathe through my nose at all. Even if I blow my nose it goes back to completely stuffed instantly. I can’t sleep with my mouth open because then it gets dry and my throat hurts (I don’t mean to sound complainey) but I am much more comfortable breathing through my nose.
I have read up on chronic sinusitis and all that but it doesn’t seem to apply with the time frame. Was wondering when if anyone had any suggestions on home remedies that would work to help relieve it while I wait to make an appointment with my doctor.
I have tried nasal sprays, neti pot, saline sprays, steam with tea tree oil, allergy medication, heating pad on my face… you name it I’ve tried it, it’s driving me nuts.
Help!!! It’s preventing me from sleeping now:(
I did stop using the nasal sprays, the neti pot was supposed to help clear everything out, it doesn’t damage the lining of your nose and it’s safe and non addictive.

You have rebound swelling from overuse of nasal sprays. You need to discontinue all
of this and see your doctor.

Question by Kaiden’s Mommy!- #2 Due Apr 26!: Why can’t you feed a baby under a year cow’s milk?
Im not doing it or anything my husband just asked me and I realized I didnt actually know. lol. I thought it was because they may have a milk allergy (why you also cant feed them peanut butter) and if they had a serious allergic reaction its more lethal since they’re younger. I dunno the real reason though…. does anyone know? Thanks!
