Question by ksmommy4: Positive food allergy in blood test but no symptoms ever…?
Hello, my daughter is 4 years old and recently had a food allergy blood test that came out positive for these foods…. wheat, eggs, soy, milk and peanuts. she has never had a reaction to any of these foods because she eats them pretty much every day (except the peanuts). i am taking her to an allergist in 2 days. i am having such a hard time with this and its giving me so many anxieties. i still think that maybe these blood test results are inaccurate. thanks for the answers and advice.
thanks a lot for the input. my daughter gets this kinda croup cough about 3 times per year so her pediatrician ordered a seasonal allergy profile and i asked her if any food allergies would make her get the cough also so she just added in the food allergy panel.

I’m a firm believer that doctors over-diagnose food allergies.
I had blood tests when I was young, and was diagnosed with all sorts of food allergies that I did not have. Tell her to eat up and enjoy.

Question by Wry Smile: Blood tests show I have food allergies but I don’t have symptoms can I still eat the food?
I tried soy milk for the first time a month or so ago and I couldn’t breathe well after I had it. When I went to the doctor she did an allergy test on my blood and as expected it said I was allergic to soy. But as well as soy it showed I am allergic to wheat, peanuts, walnuts, and corn. I eat wheat, peanuts, and corn products all the time with no problems. Is it okay if I continue to eat these foods? I have an epipen if anything does happen.

i think it’s fine to still continue to eat the products because there’s no reaction. but you should prob consult your doctor about the food products. i have some food allergies but i also dont react to them when i eat them…

Question by kelly h: What does too much calcium in my babys blood mean?
My daughter has had bloods taken for her calcium levels. They have come back that they are slightly higher in her blood, rather than in her bones. My doc said that she isn’t specialised in this area with children, so I would need to wait for the hospital appt for them to tell me more.
Can anyone give me any more indication of this matter. Is it serious? Is it something that i’ve passed onto her? etc etc
She is currently 16months with a wheat allergy
Thank you

Question by Michelle B: Should I avoid a food with a level 2 blood allergy test?
I am 26 years old and I was recently diagnosed with a level (class) 2 wheat and egg allergy. I can’t get into the allergist for another 2 months. I was told by my doctor’s nurse not to eat wheat or eggs anymore. Is it really necessary to not eat these foods until I see the allergist?

Yes is the answer – you should avoid them for a couple of reasons.
Firstly – avoiding them allows your body a chance to recover from previous reactions and when you see the allergist they will get a history from you of how your health has changed in this time without reactions. So keep a mental record – or note things down if you need to. Consider things like upset stomach, cramps, sleep, headaches etc
Secondly – constantly challenging your immune system with known allergens may lead to an increased reaction next time – is that really what you want to do? No I did not think so.
You may be perfectly fine, but something must have caused you to check this out in the first place – you must have been worried. So give your body a chance and challenge yourself to see how well you can keep them out of your diet – not easy but I am sure you will be successful.
You are lucky to know what your triggers are and this puts you well on the way to a healthier happier life – good luck.

Question by Corona: Has anyone’s skin prick test showed negative to a food you were allergic to in the past and the blood test
also came up negative and your doctor wanted you to have a sit down test where you actually ate the food that would have killed you before? We went in for my son’s annual skin prick test and everything came up negative. We are very hopeful with this reading. The doctor sent us for blood tests that should come back by the end of this week. Just the thought of not having to live in fear that our 6 year old might accidently eat something that would kill him brings tears of joy to our eyes. His doctor said that only 9 % of people grow out of tree nut allergies and most are around his age when they do. She said if the blood tests come up negative that we will have an actual sit down food test where he will eat the cashews (they are the worst for him). I am having mixed feelings about telling my son to eat a food we have been fearful of for the past 3 years. Has anyone else been through a sit down food test? Please share your story.

It is true that you can grow out of an allergy. And if he was doing the test supervised I think the danger would be very low. It would be extremely controlled. And wouldn’t it be nice if he DID grow out of it and you never had to worry about that allergy again? I would say go for it, it is more than likely that nothing will happen and if something does they will have everything there at hand to stop the reaction.
