Question by Justin: what are some main differences between soy milk and cow milk?
other than one coming from a cow and the other coming from a soy plant. i don’t have any allergies or sensitivities except for high amounts of MSG which give me mild headaches. i heard soy milk contains amounts of glutamate would these glutamate levels be different in organic soy milk? money not being a factor is it worth switch from cow to soy milk? or should i just go with what tastes best

If you’re worried about the ingredients of soy milk, go with almond or hemp milk. While I’ve never tried either, I’ve heard they’re very good. Pricey, but good.
I haven’t had cow’s milk in about a decade, but it is thicker than soy milk. Well, assuming it’s whole milk. Skim milk’s consistency is pretty similar to soy’s. I personally don’t like the taste of soy milk–Some have said it tastes like grass. I don’t quite know how to describe the taste except different. When I do have soy milk in my fridge (it’s a rarity), it’s used for cooking. Vanilla soy milk is used for drinking. Chocolate soy milk was good until a co-worker bet me I couldn’t chug a quart of it.

Question by : What is the difference between a wheat and gluten intolerance?
I was on a low carb diet and did not eat any breads for the past month and I felt great! My stomach pains, bloating, and constipation, and lethargy went away. As soon as I began introducing bread in small amounts back into my diet, I started to get the same symptoms again that I have had my whole life. I am thinking it is an allergy or intolerance. I have talked to my doctor in the past and she said to try an elimination diet to see what is bothering me…which I did.
Are there tests that say which it is?

I can tolerate milk and all milk products except for products made with buttermilk. Can I be allergic to buttermilk? If so, what in buttermlk is causing my food allergy? Ex: protiens?

It is totally different, buttermilk is much thicker and sweeter, probable that’s why they call it buttermilk because it’s got butter in it…j/k…maybe.

If I have a food allergy can I also be those types of food intolerant?
Please explain it in your own words, I can read a definition in the encyclopedia as well. An answer from a doctor would be highly appreciated here.
(The reason I am asking this question is that I am trying to maybe somehow assess whether if I have IBS and food allergies I may be wheat/glutem intolerant. And I have heard many people with IBS are gluten/wheat intolerant. Maybe finding this out would make my life easier.)

An allergy has the potential to affect the whole body. When you’re sick with an infection your body will make stuff to fight it off, just like when you have an allergy your body sees it as an invasion and tries to “fight it off”. An intolerance generally involves just the digestive tract and is caused mainly by a lack of a specific enzyme that breaks down a specific food. The symptoms are also generally different, Allergy: hives, itchy, swelling, difficulty breathing… Intolerance (GI manifestations): diarrhea or constipation, nausea, vomiting… Allergies are life threatening whereas an intolerance is generally not. celiac dis. is a gluten intolerance. I guess you could be allergic to another protein in wheat other than gluten.
