Question by life beyond yur wildest dreams: Can you grow out of Allergy? My husband has been allergic to shellfishes…?
ever since he could remember. once he almost died because there was shrimp in his jambalaya. since being married to me, (i’m asain), i know there’s shrimp, or the flavoring…and he eats it and he’s fine…is it because he’s not eating the shrimp or lobster and its for the flavor? how do we check without him having to end up in the hospital?
the only reson i ask is because like i said since being married to me…he’s eaten small amounts of shellfish in the seasoning…for example…in kim-chee, a popular korean side dish, one of the ingredients is tiny baby shrimp thats benn marinating in a salty base. he’s also eaten soups with large shrimp in the soup…(taken out of course) anyhow…if he’s allergic to shellfish…why is he able to eat oysters, and mussels??

is the flavor real or artificial? He could go the doctor and have a test done to see if he is still allergic. I know many people who grow out of them but never a food allergy before. I say be careful and to sak a doctor.

Question by Jul: I have been diagnosed with Graves disease. Should I just assume I have a wheat allergy and stop eating it?
Since being diagnosed with Graves Disease I have been doing a lot of internet research regarding my diagnosis. It seems those who have an autoimmune disease like Graves disease are often allergic to wheat or gluten products. I have stopped eating products containing gluten but it’s a real pain and I really miss them. I am 50 years old and prior to this never seemed to have any problem with gluten or wheat that I was aware of. Anyone informative comments on this would be appreciated.
I have asked my doctor and he said there is no problem with it and the internet is full of bull in regards to this. However, almost every web site regarding Graves disease that I have visited states that wheat allergy is a very common culprit in Graves disease. I find that often doctors do not put very much emphasis on diet in relationship to health, and medical schools generally do not train them in this regard either. I thought that perhaps someone who has Graves disease might find this question and answer it from their own experience.

I would think you should address this question to your physician. S/He should be able to determine if you do have an allergy to wheat or gluten. If you don’t have the allergy, then eat away!
I don’t think the two things are necessarily related in all cases. See your doc.
