Question by xnenaxo: I have eczema but I’m not allergic to wheat and diary, should I still stay away?
I heard that wheat and diary are bad for people who have eczema. But I’m not allergic to wheat, diary, peanuts, soy, etc, etc. I only have a food allergy to eggs and hazelnuts. Would it be safe to eat wheat, diary, etc? Or would it still cause a flare, even if you’re not allergic to those particular foods?

The type of immune reaction that typically affects eczema is a “delayed hypersensitivity” reaction. And this is difficult to detect with the normal immuno-assay tests.

Proteins in wheat and dairy are COMMON triggers for the delayed hypersensitivity cascade, but they’re not *always* involved. The best way to find out whether these specific foods play any role for you would be to eliminate them entirely for a few weeks. Observe whether there’s a change to your skin (or digestion, or concentration, etc.) And then re-introduce them to your diet one at a time… again, observing for changes.

If you eliminate with no change AND re-introduce with no change, it’s a pretty safe bet you personally do not react to these proteins.

VERY simplified explanation here… hope it still makes sense:
A reactive system will “over-react” to many stimuli. So if you see changes when you cut the above food groups out, but get no symptoms on re-introduction… chances are there’s something ELSE in your diet that is contributing to the problem. AND, as the whole system becomes less “reactive” you’ll find that you’re able to eat foods that may have previously been a problem.

Question by holmes: Will my daughters milk allergy go away?
My daughter is currently 3 months old and i’m nursing. It seems like every time I eat dairy she spits up a lot and has green poops. I am worried she is going to have a milk allergy when she is older. Does this allergy go away? What can I eat in the meantime. I am drinking lactose milk but can I try soy? will that make a difference? Anybody else ever experience this?

Question by charlessmith702210@sbcglobal.net: Why stay away from Xyzal if allergic also to Zyrtec or certierizine? Risk of cross-reactions?
Zyrtec, I know, contains cetierizine hydrochloride, or cetierizine HCI; Xyzal may have a close-to-similar ingredient
that can mask the same chemical as Zyrtec’s generic name.

This is similar to peanut allergy, where a person with it may have to stay away from eating other tree nuts that are not peanuts….

Question by hauki20: Can my extreme case of wheat allergy go away?
So. I have been allergic to wheat (and milk) since I was born. My father never had any allergies and neither did my mother. If I eat wheat (I don’t even have to swallow it) I will get a severe allergic reaction. Here are my symptoms:

1. Wheat has been eaten. Two hours of nausea.
2. After two hours of nausea, I will vomit. Every single time.
3. After vomiting, in some cases I can’t breath and always have to go to a hospital in less than an hour or otherwise I will pass out and my body will shut down, meaning that I will die.
4. Weakness for the rest of the day.

I get those symptoms from a considerably small amount of wheat. If I get only a tiny amount of wheat, I will have red, burning and itching skin along with nausea for 2-3 hours.

You know what they say. Wheat allergies are supposed to end in about three years or less. Luckily, I am just thirteen and a half years old and am really hoping that my condition will go away. Will it?

Sorry, but no one can answer that question for you. You will, unhappily just have to wait and see. I have a friend with peanut allergies, and she has had it her entire life, and it never will go away. You will just have to keep working with your allergist and hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
