Question by Nicole: Anybody have celiac disease or know someone who does?
Celiac disease is really not a disease but its an allergy to gluten which is the ingredient needed to help hold breads together. Gluten is in wheat, barley, and malt. I have celiac disease and I was wondering how many people out there have it or know someone who has it or at least know what ot is?

Question by Dutchcracksoldier: Going to Brugge, Belguim for 2 nights & would like to know if anybody knows of any gluten/wheat free friendly?
restaurants there? And if any bars/cafe’s carry any gluten and wheat free beer? It’s our First time there and also our 5 yr wedding anniversary and we are scared about enjoying a special meal because of my allergy. Any help at all, very much appreciated. Thanks a million

There is no gluten-free restaurant in Bruges. But most restaurants will help you if you mention your allergy. Of course it is easier if you mention it on beforehand.
If they don’t know how to help you can give them this website: http://vcv.coeliakie.be/tiki-index.php?page=StartPagina_EN

Bistro Baobab (South-African restaurant, next to the Market) is known to be very helpfull, and they have very nice meals. http://www.bistrobaobab.be/

Recommented restaurants in general: http://www.pandhotel.com/restaurants&barse.htm

Question by concretebrunette: Anybody else take Lamictal/Lamitrogene?
Have you developed an allergy to shellfish? I’ve eaten shellfish for 30 years until this year I’m now allergic to it. The only change in my lifestyle is that I’ve changed from my old drug to Lamictal.

Hi, My friend’s little boy is severley allergic to eggs, so I always make an egg free cake for parties that he attends. As luck would have it, this one is also milk free! It’s a chocolate cake, and it’s really lovely. The recipe calls for a HUGE amount of sugar, which I usually reduce. Have made it with around 400g (as that was all I had left!) rather than 600g and it’s still sweet and lovely.

550g Plain Flour, sifted
600g Caster Sugar
75g Cocoa Powder
250ml Vegetable Oil
700ml Water
3 tsp Bicarbinate of Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
3 tbsp Vanilla Extract

Preheat oven to 180 (Celcius). Grease 23cm x 23cm tin.
Sift Flour, Coca, Bicarb & Salt.
Add Sugar & mix
Add Oil, Water & Vanilla & mix thoroughly
Pour into tin & bake for approx 1 hour.

If doing cupcakes, make at 180 for about 20-25 mins.
If using smaller tins, will need to adjust time. If doing 2 sandwich tins, would prob reckon on 25-30mins?!? Skewer test will tell you. It is quite a light cake.

I’ve always had success with it – hope you do!

Question by shooky: My son’s food allergies increased significantly – anybody else have similiar experience?
I recently had my son retested – blood testing. He is allergic to milk, egg, peanuts and tree nuts. Everything increased. My concern is the increase in the peanuts which went from a 12 to over 100. Can anyone out there relate and share their experience?

My middle son had food allergies so bad, that until he was 10 or 11 yrs. of age, he had to eat certain brands of baby foods;he was allergic to :sugar substutite(ALL), strawberries, cantalops, watermelon, not persay peanut butter (but the oil), red dye,[could have anything with red food coloring in it, red dyes with a certain number like 14 or 18,But now he is 24 yrs.old and none of his allergies that he had as a child they don’t bothers him. He’s 24 as I said, weight is 175 lbs. 6′ 4″, so maybe your son will grow out of his allergies,I pray he does.
