Question by J: I am allergic to milk. Do I need to take acidophilus?
I stopped eating milk because I was diagnosed with a milk allergy. I notice when I drink milk I get gassy and congested. So to me its not worth it. So after I stopped eating milk I noticed I thought I developed allergies. I asked a natural medicine person and she said I was probably low on acidophilus. She muscle tested me and I was really low on acidophilus. I started taking pro-biotics and it seems my allergies have gotten better. Do you think I just wasn’t getting enough acidophilus in my diet? I have heard that acidophilus regulates your nasal passage and mucous.
thanks

Question by clf: Am I allergic to beer or is it just the taste?
I can drink all the hard liquor I want and not get sick. People tell me I have a very high tolerance for alcohol. However, I can drink a half a can of beer and instantly get sick. I am not allergic to wheat or yeast (i dont think because i can eat bread just fine). I have never enjoyed the taste of beer. Could it just be the taste that makes me so sick or would it be more likely to be an allergy? Anyone have any ideas?

It could be either. Have your doctor run some tests and do an analysis.

Question by paleozoictraveler: Is there an inexpensive way to feed a dog that’s allergic to everything?
My dog is allergic to the following: Pork, turkey, soy, peanuts, most kinds of rice, dairy products, and tobacco smoke, and every variety of grass, excluding corn and wheat.
It costs a fortune to feed her, and the above items are just them most serious of her 3-page allergy list! When she comes into contact with an allergen, she loses her fur and her skin breaks out in bloody leisions. Her moth bleeds and she gets indigestion really bad. We currently feed her Purina One Sensitive, but is there a brand that doesn’t cost as much?

Question by la_mami_de_bklyn: Why does my eczema flare to foods that I’m not allergic to?
When I have dairy or wheat, my eczema flares. I got an allergy test done and I’m not allergic to dairy products or wheat. I’m also not allergic to cats according to the allergy test, but when I’m around cats my allergies get really bad (itchy eyes, hard to breathe, etc). Why is this?

You could have Celiac disease. Technically, Celiac disease is an allergy to gluten, a protein in wheat.
It is a different allergic reaction than the kind of allergic reaction that an allergist would do, but we call them both “allergies” in casual usage. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder (eczema is, too, which is not an accident). An autoimmune reaction is not the same thing as an allergy, though we group them together. A course in histology will help you understand the difference between the two. But suffice it to say that even though you don’t test positive for an allergy, you can still have an autoimmune reaction that is potentiated by gluten, a reaction that will also potentiate your eczema.
It is not uncommon for gluten to cause eczema flares.

Question by stonewifey: My son is allergic to regular milk and I was wondering what brand of soy milk is a better alternative?
Yes I talked to his pediatrician but I would also like to hear from other mothers who have kids with allergies…like my little boobykins.
He was on Similac for 2 mths and his skin broke out badly. He’s been drinking good start soy and he’s been fine ever since but he’s 12mths now and he’s almost off the baby formula.

Is it an actual allergy (as tested by an allergist with a blood test or skin test) or just an intolerance?? Many times, with milk based intolerance, babies often can’t tolerate soy.
My DD had an intolerance to milk protein, and couldn’t use soy formula either. She was on Similac Alimentum for almost 10 months.
ETA: Sorry…I looked back and saw that you said milk, not formula. : )
