Question by LS760: 3 year old Allergic to milk, eggs, wheat, mold question? Pediatric Doctor’s advice would be great on this.?
Ok so my 3 year old daughter has had a cough for a little more than a month, the doctor said it could be allergies or asthma. So they decided to take an allergy test and it came out that she was allergic to milk, eggs, wheat & mold. She’s been drinking milk since she was 2 because I breastfed before that and eggs I started giving her at 1 and she never had a problem she loves them. These are 2 main things in her food routine and she doesnt get sick when i give them to her so I don’t understand why the test came out like that. I understand the mold part because this house is old and we need to remodel it and fix it. Do you think I should get a second opinion because she always asks for these things and its hard to cut it out of her diet. & I don’t have a lot of money to buy the subsitutes. Has anyones kids had the same problem and continued without problems or anything similar to this situation. Also what can I do about the mold we can’t remodel right now and i think its just one part in our ceiling that has it any short term fixes anyone knows about. thanks

Answer by SaskAries It is very rare that an allergy test would be wrong, the allergen is applied to the skin, either by the scratch test or by injection and if you have an allergy you will react to it, there are different levels of reaction, your daughters may have been a mild reaction but it is still a reaction and you are best to avoid the foods, you do not want her allergies to get worse over time. My 16 mos old daughter is allergic to peanuts, milk, eggs and wheat and we have eliminated all of those out of her diet, we have found other alternatives, it is not hard to cut something out of your child’s diet when you have the knowledge that it can make her sick.
As for the mold, disinfect the area, let it dry and hopefully there is not a leak in your ceiling, because if there is the mold will just keep coming back. Have you checked your heating system to make sure there is no mold in it? The only sure way of getting rid of the mold is to re-model and until you can do that you may have to disinfect and keep the area dry on a regular basis.

Question by ??LulU??: my cat is allergic to wheat..so is she allergic to barley too?
hi, i have a year old female cat that is very allergic to wheat. She immidiately starts scratching when she eats any food that contains wheat (including wheat flour, wheat gluten, wheat powder, etc..)
So i just ran out of her original food, so i purchased hill’s science diet Nature’s Best ocean fish flavor dry cat food for her. Before i purchased this product, i checked to see if there are any wheat in it, and there wasn’t.
So immidiently after i fed her some food, she’s been scratching around her neck again, which is her symptom of food allergy…
So i read through the ingridients again, and saw that there were cracked pearled barley in the food. i wasn’t quite sure what that was, so i searched for the image on google and it looked exactly like wheat.
So what really is barley? is it same thing as wheat or some sort of wheat? if my cat is allergic to wheat, is she most likely to be allergic to barley too…?
thank you for all your help!

Question by Angela N.: My son (2yrs) has an allergic reaction to milk!?
This is pretty sad, he can’t drink any milk , i.e., lactose free, organic, whatever, he has the same reaction. It sounds like croup, as if his throat swells up, he can’t talk or cough, his noises are very airy. He can drink soy fine but since he is a developing boy I don’t like to give it to him that often. There seems to be a collation btw the amount of milk and the amount of time it takes for the reaction to go away. Has anyone ever experienced this, I know milk allergies are really rare and he doesn’t have any other known food allergies. (I will say this though, I almost wonder if it is an allergy to what the regions cows are eating as we never had these problems in Ca, and just got back from visit there, he was able to drink milk fine for about a week and then started having reactions).

Question by Bruce & Kelly: Toddler son is allergic to milk, soy, and grape products PLEASE HELP!!!!!?
Son went to a endocrine diabetic specialist because of restricted weight gain. Doctor asked to put him on pediasure twice a day with his normal diet and nutramigen. He was on nutramigen because of milk allergies but, the specialist thought it was perfect timing to introduce it back to him and see how well he does. Very bad results on this behalf therefore, we had to go back to the doctor. They decided to do some allergy tests and the results showed he is allergic to milk and soy products. He is also allergic to grapes, raisins, grave flavoring etc. (as we found that out the hard way in the ER).
My problem is I have to read very closely to labels and almost everything has soy in it. I did get some almond milk, and managed to find some toddler meal stuff that was milk/soy free but does anyone have more examples. I hate going to the grocery store and holding everyone up while I look at every ingredient because i HAVE too.
Also, what can I use as a butter substitute in mashed potatoes. I have the unsweetened almonds milk as a replacement for cooking but any ideas for butter? Bread seems to have soy in every brand of it as well any ideas on this route? Please help I am so lost….I would like to be able to make meals for my entire family of 6 rather than make him eat something completely different. It upsets him when he can’t have what we have because, he does not understand!!!!
Thanks in advance…

Answer by ChemoAngel I know how you feel. I have 30 pages worth of Food Allergies. Here are a great website to help you out.

Just ignore the part about the dairy. The dairy is easier, try using products that contain Almond/Rice Milk, and there are also alot of products that don’t contain soy or dairy at all. You just have to read the back of the packages. I know it’s annoying. I have to stand there and read it myself. It’s hard when your a toddler, It’s just something he has to get used to, otherwise don’t eat what HE can’t eat in front of him.
