Question by MXS: Itching after drinking milk or having milk products, why?
I get itchy after I drink milk or eat anything with even a little bit of milk in it (chocolate, cheese, whey protein bars, etc.) I don’t get a rash or break out anywhere though, and I itch mostly on parts of my body with hair…including ears legs and head…even inside my nose and on my face. I also itch on the soles of my feet or palms of my hands. It’s bizarre. It’s not like a bug bite itch, though…it goes away once I scratch the area..then might come back again later or I’ll feel it elsewhere.
The itching eventually stops about 16 hours after I eat a food that bothers me.

It’s very very hard to avoid eating foods with milk or milk protein. (Imagine no cheese, no milk, no ice cream….) It’s awful. I have read up on milk allergies, but I have none of those symptoms. I used to be lactose intolerant, but this is not the same problem as that. So, I don’t know what the problem is.

Question by the_girl_collector: Has anyone found that they develop a migrane shortly after eating Subway sanwhiches?
I have heard a rumour that Subway doesn’t use natural flower but something else. I have been suffering terribly from migranes and trying to get to the dietary source of the problem. At first, I thought it might be the nitrates in sandwhich meats, but have found that I still get migranes if eating tunafish from Subway. So I am thinking I might have a “wheat” allergy.

Now you might ask, why do I eat as Subway if I get migranes? Because I noticed the pattern and am now trying to settle on the source. I get migranes outside of eating as Subway, also when eating meats and bread… anyway, any thoughts?
Yes, I am aware it is “flour” not flower, but I was typing quickly. Thanks for the responses so far. As for the taco bell comment, if you do the research you will find that they create their own flour for their bread, in order for it to have a certain consistency of size, texture etc…

Glutten is somthing to consider.

Best answer:

Answer by bmac
I sure hope Subway doesn’t use ANY “flower” in their subs.

If I got a migraine after eating, I would keep a journal and write down EVERYTHING that I had eaten prior to the onset of the migraine. After a month, I would find the common denominators and start narrowing it down like that.

Question by liz n: My 1-year-old got hives today after drinking cow’s milk yesterday. Is this a typical allergy response?
I have given him cow’s milk occasionally before but only 2-3 oz per day (with no hives in response). Last night he had a total of 6-7 oz of organic whole milk. He woke up more than usual last night crying (apparently in pain), and this morning he has hives. Does is sound like lactose intolerance? What is the best substitute? Soy milk or lactose-free milk? Any other advice about this?

Best answer:

Answer by pennypincher
Hives is NOT lactose intolerance. That is a definite allergic reaction. However, there is the possibility that it may be something other than milk. Has he has anything different lately?

I can drink mixed drinks or shots…tequila, gin, vodka, etc…I don’t have any problems. But if I have any beer, I feel sick and get a horrible headache. Last weekend, I had only 1 beer while watching a football game and had a headache & nausea the next day as though I’d been black-out drunk. People have mentioned possible wheat allergies, but I only eat whole grain wheat bread and don’t have any problems…. anyone have any idea what my problem is? anyone share a similar issue?

Question by asimenia: Spots after eating prawns, allergy?
I have noticed that after I eat prawns I breakout in small white blister type spots is this to do with the shellfish? Is this a typical reaction if there’s an allergy involved. Normally when I go out to eat shellfish – I am usually going over the top in other areas (late night / alcohol / fish / smoky atmosphere (I don’t smoke but we live in Greece …)
If any one has suffered this please let me know. The spots where the worse where I had had waxing on my upper lip a few days before … no lady moustach but a nice line of blister spots! A girl can’t win!
lkrayanna233
That’s why I am asking as I wasn’t sure – I thought it was to do with late nights/alcohol and other things – I’ve only just put two and two together…… and I ADORE prawns and live by the sea in Greece!

Best answer:

Answer by connemara
You are allergic to prawns. Don’t eat them and get allergy tested for other types of fish. Shellfish are not the only fish to cause allergies as you have discovered with the prawns.

Question by Thanks: Peanut allergy… afraid to eat after?
I’ve been aware of my allergy to peanuts since I was 3 years old (18 now) and I am very cautious about it (always reading labels, telling waiters of my allergy). Would say that it used to occur once or twice every 2 years and I would only have tongue swelling and minor throat problems, but it has happened that I have had 3 allergic reactions in 2010 – including one with anaphylaxis which put me in the ER given epinephrine and presnidone – I took benadryl quickly after realizing but began to cough a lot and feel nauseous.

I notice that I’ve somewhat developed a fear in general about eating, regardless of whether it is at home or at restaurants I’ve gone to for years/food I eat regularly. It tends to be horrible the first 2 weeks after the reaction but gets clearly better after.

Monday was the most recent, and the only explanation I can find into how I felt was that I felt “off” – I was pretty nauseous and my mouth felt weird, but I didn’t have any trouble breathing and my tongue didn’t swell up. I took Benadryl but I think I began to panic and decided to go to the ER again (just to be safe, and they said I was pretty okay to go home).

Since then, when I’ve eaten I feel incredibly nervous as if I’m going to experience the reaction again, and I even feel sweaty and itchy for a minute.. when I think about meals or in detail about the allergy, I feel physically uncomfortable because I go back to thinking how it felt when I was having the reaction..

Any advice or response would be helpful! I don’t know if this is normal or what to do.. Thanks.
I do read labels, etc… I’m more concerned about the way I am after the allergic reaction

Best answer:

Best answer:

Answer by psychiatrydude
Sounds like you either have a wheat allergy of worse, celiac disease. My sister has it and it really sucks. You can’t eat any gluten at all. You should go to your doctor asap because it’s dangerous to be eating wheat if you have it. To answer the stomach cramps, no you wouldn’t have to suffer more, the symptoms of a wheat allergy or celiac disease vary from person to person.

Question by Rose: After having a biopsy, found an allergy to gluten and milk, tested negative to Celiac however. What do I do?
After having much trouble with my health for about 20 years, finally found that the acid reflux was a huge problem. My Dr. did a scope and found my esophogus is completely scarred. He did a biopsy and found milk and gluten allergy. The test for Celiac came back negative. Now what do I do. How careful do I really need to be if it is not celiac disease?

Best answer:

Answer by tmkbstella
An important thing to know about the test for celiac is that it many times shows even if you are celiac the test can show up as negative. In most cases you would have to have eaten a lot of gluten for weeks before the test for it to actually show an accurate positive result. If you are showing allergy’s to milk and wheat then stay away from it. even trace amounts can cause you severe discomfort. Gluten is everywhere you will need to watch out for even the most basic things like the glue on an envelope, lip balm etc. Do as much research as you can it seems overwhelming at first like there is nothing you can eat or touch. But it is not as bad as it seems. I know I have the same allergy’s

Answer by zepper0
You may be lactose intolerant or developed a milk allergy. Have it checked out. Allergies can kill, so don’t drink or eat stuff with milk before you get it checked out.
