What Are The Causes of Milk Allergy?

People of all ages can have a milk allergy, which is the result of their body not reacting well to the proteins that it contains. There are two parts of milk, – whey and caseins. Some individuals have an allergic reaction to the proteins in both of them or just one of them. Either way, the body tries to fight off the milk when it is consumed instead of allowing it to digest like it normally would.

A variety of antibiotics are released by the body to attack when an individual with a milk allergy consumes it. The severity of the allergy is going to depend on how fiercely the body is determined to fight it. This is why a person can consume milk products and not have any reaction. Then later on if they do so they may have a mild reaction. As time goes on though and they continue to consume milk products the reaction can get worse and worse. This is due to the fact that the body continues to recognize it as a threat. Therefore it is going to become very aggressive when it comes to fighting it off.

The body offers a substance called histamine to fight off the milk products in the body. The amount of it that will be produced is what is going to determine the severity of the allergic reaction. The amount of milk products consumed as well as what the person is allergic to will affect it. There are two parts of milk – whey and casein which a person can be allergic to. Those that have an allergy to both of them will suffer from more severe symptoms.

Children that suffer from other types of food allergies are also very susceptible to developing a milk allergy as well. Many doctors believe that if food allergies aren’t controlled they can allow the body to begin to fight off more and more of what it should be able to consume. Some types of skin allergies that people have are also believed to trigger milk allergy as well.

It is also known that those individuals that suffer from asthma or hay fever have an increased risk of developing a milk allergy as well. There is some indication that it may be a genetic concern as well. Young children are carefully watched if one or both of their parents suffer from such an allergy as well.

Experts believe that there are still some other underlying causes of milk allergy. Since many children do outgrow their milk allergy, studies are being conducted that try to explain what changes from the time that they can’t accept milk correctly in their bodies to when they can. It is believed the answers to these questions will help to determine the full causes of milk allergy as well as how to help people overcome it.
