Question by AllyCat: Go on a cruise with severe iodine ans shellfish allergy?
My family and I want to go on a cruise this summer. We aren’t sure if it would be a good idea though. My mom has a deadly iodine and shellfish allergy. It’s gotten so bad that she can’t even swim in the ocean anymore without getting a few hives. Would she be alright if we went on a cruise or would the air and the frequent mist from the water upset her allergies?

Best answer:

Answer by sailor
Yahoo answers is probably not the place to ask life and death questions. She needs to have a thorough discussion with her doctor about the wisdom of going on a cruise. One option might be to do a cruise on the Great Lakes if there is such a thing or a river cruise on the Mississippi or in Europe. That way salt water is avoided.

Question by person1500: If you have a tree nut allergy, does it mean you are also allergic to peanuts?
After i had a reaction to a brazilian nut, my doctors suggested i dont eat peanuts along with tree nuts. i happen to like peanuts and have eaten them all my life. do i really have to give them up?

Best answer:

Answer by Richard M
Peanuts don’t grow on trees. You may not actually have an allergy to all tree nuts either. I think your doctor is being overly cautious. Having said that, I believe that you might be wise to go to a specialist and discover exactly how broad your allergy is. That way you can know for sure how to be safe.

Okay well I just found out i was allergic to peanuts about 3 months ago, then like about 4 weeks ago i started to brake out in hives. and i went to the doctors and they said it could be peanuts but how long could peanuts stay in your system if you are allergic?

Best answer:

Answer by Julie
You have no doubt developed an allergic to something else. It could be peanuts if you ate anything that may have contained even a small amount of peanuts or peanut oil.

Question by Bryce S: I want to hear some stories about shellfish allergies. How do you go through daily life?
Do you go to restaurants? or do you not risk going to restaurants? Do you carry an epi pen with you all the time? I would always go to restaurants, but now I am starting to rethink. I head hives when I was little to shrimp and crab, but never got anaphlaxis. When I smell seafood being cooked or in a grocery store it stuffs me up but no reaction. Can anyone relate? could I be highly allergic?

Best answer:

Answer by Drumbum
The next time you react, it could be deadly…you need an epi pen if you dont have one.

I have nut allergies, and I go out. Just avoid resteraunts that serve seafood and tell your waitress.

I have a nuts (especially peanuts) allergy.
I’ve got Anaphylactic shock once.
It wasn’t slight.
I survive finally with the emergency cure.
But could be dead.
So I must never eat any kind of foods include peanuts even little volume.

Please tell me something about it in the USA.
Little bit advice can be accepted, of course!!
Any foods in shop or anywhere have indications about raw materials?
I want to know about the understanding of the food allergies or peanuts allergy in the USA.
Because here in Japan, though the indications are, most people don’t know how a peanuts allergy is risky.

And another,
Actually, I or the Japanese have a stereotype that peanuts is American or European food and they eat it often.
Like the song “Take me to the ballpark” or cake and bread with peanuts butter.
Do you eat in lunch break often?

Sorry for the abstraction sentense and bad English><

Just today, we found out that our 2 year old is allergic to at the very least, walnuts, and probably other types, including peanuts. I have a call into my allergist to get him formerly tested – something that I was putting off until the new year (and new insurance) but with this call from his pediatrician I now have a message with my clinic to try to get him in tomorrow or Monday for more testing. For the time being, my pediatrician prescribed an epi pen for us to carry around.

I am scared to death that I will be the mom to the kid in the classroom with the peanut allergy. How do you deal with it? Are there any good resources out there for me to figure out what name brand foods to avoid, etc.? Am I over reacting? Will I become or need to become a label reader?

Help! I appreciate your assistance in advance.
